Hi all ,

 

Have allways flown with Emirates or Etihad before but thinking about direct flight with Thai' this time.

 

Anyone flown Heathrow to Bkk with them ?

What they like ?

Seat back tv's with on-demand movies to choose from?

Anything else ??

I always fly thai, economy now has seat back screens and movies on demand, they didn't used to. The food and service is excellent

Just noticed your fying date , i haven't booked it yet but thats the date i intend to travel

The flight is very good, always leaves on time and the food is not too bad either. The newer planes now have in flight entertainment, which includes a good selection of films and programmes to watch.

The only downside is that the newer planes they now use on the LHR-BKK route has limited leg room as they have a box under the seat so its hard for you to stretch your legs out as the box gets in the way..

 

The service is decent as well....

I agree with the above posts, I never have a problem with leg room though as I am not the tallest hahaha.

 

And what better way to start your Pattaya adventure than a taste of Thai in the sky.

Hi, Thai Airways not to bad for direcf flights although the Aircraft are not as modern as Emirates or Etihad.

Personally I have recently had better direct flight deals from Eva Air and the hostesses are equally pleasing to

the eye. I use West-East travel for booking and have always had excellent service from them. Good Luck

The boxes aren't under all seats...but the window rows A and K all have them in economy,so that is a problem if you want to get your head down. But rows B and J are box free.

Used to fly thai airways LHR-BKK USED 20-30 times

Past 4-5 years use eva(same direct flight) approx same ticket price inflight movies back of seat more leg room

Thai Airways an excellent service

Always use Qatar Airways, five star airline, new planes, well fit crew, latest IFE systems, good food, serve free booze all the way........... small change in Qatar (no issues)

food and service are brilliant. Prices are one of the cheapest. Direct from LHR. Hot hostessses.

 

In flight entertainment is slightly better on the arab ones, but apart from that, Thai everytime.

Have done Tg911 back when they used the old 747s. CRT monitors on the ceiling for the movies, but awesome legroom in lower class. I don't care about inflight entertainment as I've got music, books and movies queued up on my iPad. 911 uses Airbus now. Better inflight... Don't know about comfort.

 

Am trying Thai's Airbus out of Zurich next week. Hope it's Ok. Returning via Stockholm on an old TG 747. At least I'll be able to stretch out.

TG911 only flight I've done so can't compare but it was IMO excellent, food was fantastic, free bar was great, service brilliant. IFE movie choice etc was OK, would def fly with them again.

I always fly with Eva... however two years ago i took a punt with Thai airways... never again.. old plane, only had one video screen which showed i think one film then the was turned off (as it was a night flight) .

 

For someone like me who can't sleep on a plane, led to a very.. very.. long boring flight.... food was good !!!

 

So i'm back flying with Eva ... roll on Dec 13th

flew with Thai Air about 1.5 year ago. Bit of a let down. I dont sleep well and it had No TV in seat etc quite old plane.

Can only presume they hadn't upgraded yet to as they are waiting for there A380's. So not the best. when we flew BA or Eva offered more at the time. Ie TV on demand etc. and seems bit more room. What made it worse was they let on 2 paralytic drunk lads who I was seated next too. So drunk they keep falling on me when they fell asleep. So wasn't impressed they had let somebody on so drunk.

 

But over all if you want direct they are much the same if you take your own entertainment or sleep well on a plane.

 

But the times they fly made it the best for me .

 

Depart UK 9:30pm so can work all day dont miss a days pay then off to the airport as soon finish.

 

Flight back is perfect depart Midnight so dont have to get up early to leave and have a time left in the day to say my goodbyes. Lands in Heathrow 6:30am straight to work so dont miss a days work and have maximsed my time in Pattaya.

I think most of the 747's are upgraded now with IFE on all of them , just recently its been A340's on LHR BKK flights no legroom problems as the flights havent been full so i've had at least two seats to myself on my past two flights ...... i think as we enter high season the 747's will be back in service on this route

 

As for service i've flown Thai , Eva and BA on direct routes and i used to be a diehard EVA fan but last couple of times i flew with them it seemed the hostesses were restrictive with the alcohol ....not so on Thai , want some more drink or some more food just head for the galley and they'll happily oblige thats if its not already laid out just for the taking .

Having travelled worldwide using many airlines I have to say that Thai Air is one of my favourites - however, last time they served me a pea sandwich, I am not sure what the hell that is all about.

I agree - the food is good, apart from the pea sandwich which I spat out. The seat pitch is also good and with seat back TV's

Thai used to have decent prices but not for the last 5 or 6 years but the do offer specials at various times which will give you a "free" return flight in thailand

Few years back did about twelve return trips with Thai, only ever one delay, captain not happy with the the aircraft, so had to wait for a replacement took about an hour.

Flew with EVA for years, always happy, gorgeous cabin crew and they understand that male cabin crew are an abomination.

 

But the last few times EVA have been expensive for the time I wanted to go, so ended up on Thai.

 

Thai are also good - they upgraded inflight entertainment in Jan 2012 to individual back of seat, although the current movies weren't the best.

 

You can get drinks and sandwiches for most of the flight and the service is good.

 

They generally do free domestic flights, or at least for the cost of the tax, but be careful - if you miss the domestic flight you may lose your return flight to LHR, check with the agent.

 

In Feb this year I paid about £600 LHR-BKK return with Thai economy.

 

I'm short, so legroom not so much of a problem.
