I don't usually take my laptop to LoS but this time I think I will, therefore I'm looking for a backpack that's large enough to carry a 17" laptop but small enough to qualify as cabin bagage. Any recomendations?

My notebook is only 10" but I have a small bag that is made for it, has handles and a shoulder strap.

 

The advantage is that I can I take it on board as carry-on most airlines let you have an actual bag (or backpack) upto 7kg and they dont count a laptop bag as extra carry on. Not sure if they would treat a backpack in the same way though.

 

I might be worth getting an actual laptop bag if this could be a problem for you.

i hace purchasd a pacsafe backpack. check it out. the previous poster had it right about the laptop bag.

Some airlines allow you to take laptop as an extra item, you will need to check with your airline

I take my 17" laptop most trips in an air tec cushioned bag similiar to the attached, as noted above check out your airline's rules I had to quote the published rules to the EVA air check in guy at Heathrow a few years ago. See what happens next week.........20kg suitcase, carry bag and laptop bag

This year i take my 15" laptop with me. You must ask the airline mate if you can take it to your Handbaggage. I fly with China Eastern Airways back. A good choice. 2 Suitcase allowed and one Handbaggage was my notebook. Ask you for what you need the notebook in Thailand. For work ok but only for stay in Contact with home or anything it is to big mate. Buy a smaller once 10"-11" or a Pad. Easier to transport.

i bought one good backpack for my laptop in bkk sometime back , its still going good , i saw a cool one recently of victorinox ,where you have the handle sealed with metal wire to make it stronger.

Someone mentioned about the packsafe , i got that packsafe lock for my backpack and its good if you intend to lock it out while checking or tieing it up at the room in your absence....

Where are you going to leave you laptop when you are out on the town? Very few hotel room safes are big enough.

 

Some of the room safes are a tight fit for a 10" netbook.

 

Last time I just took a 5.25" Galaxy Note phablet. Not perfect, however always had it with me. If in room, always space in the room safe. Some people would prefer 7" or 10" tablet.

 

You need to think further ahead than just the travelling with the laptop, and you might like to reconsider all the options, not just a laptop.

I agree, why would you want to take a 17" laptop to Pats? I have a little 10" one, it does the job, I can take it with me easily or store in the safe if not. Agree again, where do you want to leave that big laptop? Safes normally too small and only save option would be to leave it at reception?

A good kensington lock tied to something solid or plumbing would put off the opportunistic thieves.

 

A 10 inch- yep good for safes but painfull to use.

Have a look at the TARGUS range although I'm not sure they run to 17". I've had my back pack more than five years. It has travelled on two Atlantic sailing crossings, countless flights, a huge number of Thai bus trips and has received loads of abuse. Zips are still perfect, it has become a little discoloured owing to UV but is still in good nick. My laptops have survived as well. I just put in the washing machine (MINUS LAPTOP) once a year to give it a clean.
