Irish Coffee

I really admire the Irish, they'll put whiskey in anything :Beer8: . So, whenever I need a break from crawling the GoGos drink1.gif I like to 'sober up' with an Irish Coffee at King's Cafe, across from the Ice Bar.

It's a good spot for people watching, and you can peer up at the Eastern European girls on the Moulin Rouge preview stage next door. :24: I've never been inside, so it's interesting to watch customers walking up and down the stairs, and note how long they stay.

Your Irish Coffee is prepared table-side at King's Cafe. Igniting the flame flamethrower.gif temporarily attracts the attention of hoards of Walking Street strollers, away from the Michael Jackson impersonator, as they're wondering along like zombies gone.gif with motion camera turned on, usually fixed on the Moulin Rouge stage girls. :Photo1: Do they bother to watch these when they get home?

After the inside of your mug is coated with whiskey, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar are evenly distributed inside the glass and heated with the flame. Add the coffee, topped off with a delightfully gooey layer of unwhipped cream. Finally, the whiskey is lit and poured over the top like a lava flow. Be careful the flame has expired before raising the glass to your lips. 200 baht, plus 10% service charge, maybe the most expensive Irish Coffee in town (unless it's served at Moulin Rouge).

Used to order at 19th hole, for 150, but is no more. Also, Cafe Patani on Soi Buakhao. Irish Coffee 'purists' may complain about the use of whipped cream, but good value for 130. Where else can I get a good Irish Coffee?

Irish Coffee, it's not just for breakfast anymore!

I was turned on to Irish Coffee about 20 years ago, when I wondered into a small cafe near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco called the Buena Vista. By chance, this cafe is famous for Irish Coffee, having introduced it to America in 1952. They're even in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the largest Irish Coffee, 15 gallons (about 57 liters), and have served about 40 million Irish Coffees.

I tried one, and it was delicious, so I had 4 or 5 more. I was a heavy coffee drinker in those days.

Nice report PC. Never had an Irish coffee before but sounds kind of heart warming. Never imagined it would be available in the tropics.

I'd say 150-200 would be about the norm in Pattaya! I had one in Indian by Nature on Tapparya Rd and it cost 350 baht! Bloody glad i wasn't paying :WhoSaw1:
