Hi Guys

Im currently in Patts now and im looking to buy replica clothes, handbags, shoes etc

I know where to go for watches but the hangbags and things are an issue

I just left bangkok and every tuk tuk driver took us places that had good stuff but we thought it would be better in pattaya.

Can you guys tell me where we can go to locate these kind of shops? Need addresses if possible so i can show the taxi driver

Thanks in advance

Most of the replica items are easily spotted as fakes. If you dont know what the real McCoy looks like you wouldnt note the differences I suppose, but placed next to a genuine item, the difference is substantial.

Try "Marlee" on soi bukow....just past soi dianna...on right hand side

I think the best place in the country would be JJ markets in Bangkok. A place you could get lost for an entire day.

I took a UK fashion buyer on a handbag hunt in BKK a couple of years ago. Executive Summary: if you want more than 'toy' replicas, don't bother with street stalls, JJ markets etc or anywhere where the product is on open sale: the materials and workmanship are crap and easily detectable as fake.

So ... for handbags:

Step 1: Take with you good quality colour photos of the specific model you want (advert page from Vogue magazine or similar).

Step 2: Go to Silom in BKK and enter Patpong 2. Almost as soon as you're in the soi, it kinks to the left and on that side you'll see a stall selling the usual tourist tat, particularly handbags. Enter the shop that leads off the stall.

Step 3: Produce the photo and indicate that's what you want, quantities etc. There will then be a not too serious attempt to sell you the last model or a crap repro of the current model. Persist.

Step 4: Once they know you're a serious buyer, they'll invite you to take a seat and send a runner to bring stuff from their local hideaway. Then it's down to your bargaining skills (and knowledge of the specific product) to get what you want at a reasonable price.

On our visit, they caved in quite quickly when it was clear that my buyer pal knew what she was talking about - the price was above what the open stalls charge, but my pal was well-pleased and bought ten bags. She reckoned they were the best counterfeits she'd seen on that trip, with Kuala Lumpur coming next in line.

Avoid tuk-tuk & BG recommendations - they simply don't know the (original) product. The tip about this shop came from a fashion-obsessed unie student.

There's a shop on Beach Road near Tahitian Queen, looks like a normal run of the mill bag shop, but when you go inside once they know you are genuine they push a button under the counter and the bookshelves turn turn around allowing you to enter a hidden room where they keep all the top stuff. Bit like James Bond really.

Fact or fiction? Would like to see the revolving bookcases.
