Blocked ears

I seem to suffer from "blocked ears" lately. It feels like i have liquid in the ears, especially when i wake up in the morning, and my hearing is a little impaired. Anyone else have this problem? I guess i need to get it checked out. Is the answer an ear clean or syringe. Any recommendation where to go, NOT a barber i think.

Most probably need them syringed mate. So go see your docter and see what he/she thinks. If you havent had them done before its a bit of a odd feeling but afterwards I thought everyone was yelling but they where just speaking normal.

The first time it happened to me I woke after a hot sticky night and the world was muffled. It was a strange feeling and I expected that it would soon correct itself.

By lunch time I was concerned because it may have got worse so I visited my local GP.

I was shown to the treatment room, where a nurse, a bucket of warm water and what looked like a bike pump was waiting. They didn’t actually explain the treatment but you get the picture and although it was uncomfortable it was relatively painless and the results were instantaneous.

On the down side it meant I could hear the ex-wife alot clearer but of course I didn’t tell her that, :Think1:

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.

Head down to the Buakhow Clinic, it's near enough opposite Sugar Sugar. They put some chemical in the ear and it's the weirdest feeling as it sizzles the wax away. Cost was maybe 200bt but the result was spectacular.

Hydrogen Peroxide, you can get a big bottle at Boots for about 30 baht.

Although people apparently do this, I would never put anything as chemically active as peroxide in my ear. One example of chemical activity: Peroxide causes holes when it touches clothing.

I had it happen here a year ago ... wax build up that shifted with the air pressure on the flight over. I tried to clean with a cue-tip and impacted both ears with about 90% hearing loss. I tried the Soi Bukeouw Clinic and they tried to clean with a solvent with no results, so they told me to go to Bankok Pattaya Hospital. I went there and they sent me up to the ear specalist who basically vacuumed out the wax and I got to watch on the monitor. Full hearing restored at a cost of 2,000 baht, and in and out within 2 hours. A year later and no problems.

Maxx I have the same story as you, but I got my vacuuming done at the hospital in soi 4, and not another blockage for 2 years now but I regularly use an ear spoon to scoop wax out. The vacuum is the best way to go and they had the same camera and monitor to view inside my ear. But he did say that I had to have my ear canal drilled out and the best place for that is in Australia.

The narrowing of the ear canal is caused by swimming in cold water, a mate of mine had to have his ear canal drilled out......it is very painful.

There is no advantage to getting old......

Had one of my ears close up on me during Songkran this year. Thought it was an infection as I had never experienced this before. The ointment i got from the pharmacy had no effect. As this happened towards the end of the trip didn't go to a local doctor despite having travel insurance and went to see a specialist when I got back home.

Diagnosis, blockage of the hearing channel by a "plug" of ear wax build up, disgusting to think about but was told it was someway natural. I was in and out in about an hour. The procedure wasn't really the pleasant but didn't really hurt either, hard to describe. He used a prong, a vacuum and afterwards washed out the ear channel.

The specialist did tell me I could have gone to a local hospital, in fact he said it would have been better as there is always a possibility of infection.

Thanks for the recommendations from the BMs, guess the best bet would be to go to a hospital rather than a clinic.
