Sattahip police arrested a 65-year-old German for stabbing a neighborhood Golden Retriever to death, while he was walking his Rottweiler dog. The suspect claimed the Retriever had attacked and bitten him before. So he started carrying a knife, and when attacked again, he stabbed the dog 17 times in self defense.

PATTAYA – November 15, 2012 [PDN]; at 3 p.m., police arrested a German expat for the November 12 stabbing death of a neighborhood dog in the village where he lived.

The suspect, Mr. Alfred Gatt, age 65, nationality German, was arrested by Pol. Lt. Narate Boonthee by the order of Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak, Superintendent, Sattahip police station. Accompanying the suspect was his wife, Mrs. Urairat Gatt, age 40, who came to cheer him up closely.

The Pattaya provincial court arrest warrant accuses Mr. Alfred of causing other people to lose their property by using a knife to stab a Golden Retriever 17 times and causing the animal to die awfully. The slaying of the dog occurred at the joss house within Nawee House 19 village Moo 9 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Pol. Col. Chonnapat Nawalak revealed that the police investigation found that Mr. Alfred really killed the dog cruelly. The owners of the dog, a Thai couple, had notified police, and described the German killing their dog right before their eyes in front of their house. When they tried to help their dog, the crazed German tried to stab them too.

So Pol. Col. Chonnapat commanded the investigation officer to gather all evidence and request an arrest warrant from the Pattaya provincial court. Then the police went to arrest Mr. Alfred at his house. Police also seized the knife that he used to make trouble. It had a short blade of 3 inches, was produced in Germany, and was very sharp.

In his defense, Mr. Alfred claimed that he had been bitten by the Retriever several times and got injured. So he had to carry his short knife with him all the time in order to protect himself. When the stabbing incident occurred, Mr. Alfred said he was walking in the village then he was bitten by the Retriever, so he stabbed it until it died.

Initially, from investigating, the police found that Mr. Alfred really was at fault, so the police charged him in an accusation of making other people lose their property. After his arrest, police let Mr. Alfred do the master plan of confessing at the incident point of the dog killing, amidst the cursing voices from the gathered local people over his barbaric cruelty.
