Police caught and arrested two teen boys on a motorbike who had just snatched a woman’s purse minutes earlier on Pattaya Second Road. The pair said they got the idea from watching a reality TV show, which showed a successful purse snatcher in Pattaya escaping on a motorbike.

PATTAYA – November 15, 2012 [PDN]; at 4 p.m., a report of two teens on a motorbike snatching a purse was received by Pol. Col. Thammanoon Mankong, director of Pattaya police station Chonburi. He went to check the scene with Pol .Lt. Col. Kiattisak Sratong-oi, vice director of the suppression division.

The purse snatching occurred at the top of soi 4, near Bangkok Bank, on second Pattaya road, moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung. Waiting for police at the scene was the victim, Mrs. Fon Treewiset , age 43, and her foreign husband.

The couple testified that while she was talking with her husband, her purse was snatched by two male teenagers riding a black Honda Wave 125 motorbike. Inside her purse were personal documents, a cell phone, and1,200 baht cash. The two teens got away fast, before the couple had time to react.

After hearing their testimony, the police officers broadcasted a description of the suspects and their motorbike through the police radio, and alerted police and volunteers to look out for them. A short while later, the two young thieves were spotted and arrested, about 2 km from the crime scene, at the top of soi 13 near Nakluea Road.

The two suspects were identified as Mr. Ploy, age 17; and Mr. Komkrit, age14 (last names withheld). The two suspects confessed to having snatched purses on three previous occasions. They would use the money for traveling and shopping for their clothes.

The pair said they got the idea for their crimes from watching a TV reality show, which broadcasted a video of a criminal successfully snatching people’s purses in Pattaya.
