Z Packs available with no prescription in Patts?

I've purchased Xanax (alprozolam) in pharmacies in Patts & Phuket without a scrip, so I'm guessing Zithromax is available as well?

 

I use protection, uh, well...... ..... you know.... most of the time! But there is the occasional lapse of judgement. And even if I've not "accidently" barebacked a girl during a trip I still like to nuke my system with a Z-pak.

 

Anyone know if I can pick up Zithromax in Patts without a prescription?

Zithromax fights bacteria in the body. 1 to 2 gram dosages should do the trick. 4 x 250 mg doses at the same time.

do you take it once or is it taken several times? How many 1g doses would i need if staying in pattaya for a month?

Z-pack at any pharmacy. 200-300 baht. No script needed. 6 in a pack. Take 2 the first day and one a day for the remaining 4 days. No antacids 2 hours before or 4 hours after. Can be taken with or without food.

So the idea is to take it even if there is a chance you don't have anything? I'm just worried of side effects if I do this while drinking or something.

What it does not do is what the OP thinks. It will treat Chlamydia and for STI's that's it.

 

And it is taken as a single dose of 1 gram not daily as some sort of prophylactic measure.

 

Not Syphilis (Penicillin by injection)

Not Gonorrhea (Ceftriaxone by injection and only after a positive diagnosis)

Not traveller's diarrhea (Ciprofloxacin)

Not anything else.

 

The advice of taking it willy nilly is like all posts here of a similar vein, wrong headed and a good way to get C. Difficle. This is a very serious illness that can be fatal.

 

I am always amazed at the self medicating here and the failure of people to realize that certain antibiotics treat some things and not others and taking them without a disease is pointless except a few (very few) circumstances including asplenic people who take a penicillin daily and the use of doxycycline for preventing malaria in some locations where chloroquine is ineffective.

Actually RT is almost entirely right: dosage (1g, single dose), utility (chlam), and complications. You're doctor is woefully misinformed.

 

Prophylactically taking antibiotics is 100% unwarranted and can easily lead to other problems by killing off your entire native flora. One day it will seem completely absurd that the tools we used were so coarse. Never mind that you're completely ignoring the pharmacological kinetics of antibiotic absorption by taking it daily, too. Not to mention that the unscrupulous use of ABs is giving rise to resistant superbugs.

 

A better strategy is to 1) not freak out and start self medicating willy-nilly; 2) have routine STD screening; 3) if you're symptomatic, see a doc. It ain't no thang.

I do appreciate the input Cody (& RT as well)... even though I obviously don't agree 100%

 

Experience, consultation, excellent health (and not using the full dosage by the way), give me some reasonable level of confidence that this precaution is wise.

 

Our hobby carries with it some considerable risk.... I doubt we'd have much argument on this point.

 

Regarding the Z-pack strategy, it's "risk / reward" ...... when you have interests back home to protect you have to decide if such precaution is warranted. In my case it is.

 

Every time you're out banging whores, you too are balancing "risk / reward".

using antibiotics when not needed only makes them not work when needed.

 

It also makes the strain of what ever it is mutate so less and less antibiotics will work on it like the clap has.
