Mr. Prateep was charged with illegal possession of a Type-1 drug (methamphetamine). Police seized the evidence of 54 tablets of meth. The arrest resulted from a police investigation that began when local residents reported a man was selling drugs and using meth. The police initially began arresting the network of drug users, before going after the suspect dealer.

But Mr. Parteep sensed the police were closing in and escaped. But he then got arrested suddenly, and police found 24 meth tablets on his body. During questioning, Mr. Prateep admitted hiding another 30 meth tablets in a nearby street light fixture. So the police went to check and seized the additional meth tablets as evidence.

Mr. Prateep told police that he had been selling meth for many years, to raise money to look after his family.
