Two people were killed and five injured in Sri Racha after a speeding 18 wheeled trailer slammed into the back of a pickup truck making a U-turn, and then collided with a commuter van. The aftermath triggered a kilometers-long traffic jam.

SRIRACHA – November 13, 2012 [PDN]; at 12 a.m., a report of a multiple-vehicle accident that killed two people and injured five was received by Pol. Maj. Capt. Sopon Nitikul, the officer of the shift, Nongkham police station, Chonburi. Police went to check the scene with the rescue team from Piao Yiang Tai foundation Sriracha.

The incident occurred on the road route Nongkhwae-Bowin in front of Trakarnkij Intertech Co. Ltd., moo 4, Bueng, Sriracha, Chonburi.

At the scene, police found a white Hino trailer from Nippon Conpo, Thailand, Co. Ltd., registration code 70-2230, Bangkok. The cab of the trailer truck was severely damaged.

Nearby was a golden bronze Nissan pickup truck, registration code Bor Wor 6101, Chonburi. The whole body of the truck was ruined and parts were scattered on the road. The two occupants of the truck were killed in the collision.

One victim was identified as Mrs. Korntiwa Kornwatin, age 40, a guarantor of Wiriya Prakanpai company. She had been thrown out of the pickup, and her arms, legs, and neck were broken. She died at the scene.

The other victim was identified as Mrs. Praphawarin Nukboon, age 45. Her head had been gashed open, and there was uncontrolled bleeding from her body. She was rushed to the hospital but died en route. Police released Mrs. Korntiwa’s body to the rescue team to send to Aoudom hospital to perform an autopsy,

The third vehicle involved in the accident was a bronze Toyota commuter van from the Sahapat company, registration code HOr Jor, 4535. The front of the van was ruined, and the collision had injured five passengers inside. The rescue team performed first aid and also sent the injured to Aoudom hospital.

Police questioned the driver of the trailer truck, identified as Mr. Peerapol Weha, age 34. He testified that he was driving along Nongkhwae road, and when he approached the spot of the incident, a pickup truck was stopped to make a U-turn. But the pickup was not following the turning light traffic signal.

Mr. Peerapol’s truck was speeding down the slope of a hill, and he was going fast because he had not expected the pickup truck to stop in front of his path. He jammed on his brakes to try and stop his trailer, but his truck did not stop in time. It plowed into the back of the pickup truck, and then veered off to collide with the commuter van.

The van, driven by Mr. Paiboon Homyanyen, age 36, had been headed to Bowin. The impact injured the five passengers inside. Police detained the trailer truck driver to question again for further legal action.
