Police Mocked for Thai Video About Krabi Rapist

Tourists have been canceling trips to Krabi after seeing an internet video “Evil Man from Krabi.” It was made by an enraged Dutch father, after his daughter was raped by a Krabi tour guide who was set free on bail. So the Krabi police posted a defensive video of their own. But foreign viewers flamed it for being in Thai and lacking English subtitles.

About two weeks ago, a father from Holland made a video clip and posted it on YouTube, named “Evil man from Krabi.” His 19-year-old daughter, a model, had been beaten and raped on July 27 by a Krabi tour guide. The Thai suspect was arrested nearly two months later, and quickly freed on bail by the Krabi court.

The rap-style, disturbing video features the Dutch father, a songwriter and musician, walking around in the woods with a rifle. He says menacing things like, “put the Raperman from Krabi into jail.” As of Nov. 10, the video attracted more than 360,000 views, resulting in dozens, if not hundreds of tourists canceling their reservations to Krabi.

In response, Krabi officials and police attempted damage control by posting their own video, “The Truth From Krabi.” The video has explanations of the Thai justice system, while explaining the police functions separately from the courts. However, the video is broadcast in the Thai language without English subtitles, making it incomprehensible to foreigners.

On November 11, Pol. Maj. Gen. Nantadej Yoinuan, the commander of Krabi provincial police, spoke about the Thai video, “The Truth from Krabi,” which was posted in on YouTube by the police on November 10. The video is about 4 minutes and 30 seconds long.

The video features a Thai voiceover that explain the progress of the officers in handling the case from the July incident. The detective officer in the video reports that he gathered all the evidence, and asked the permission from Krabi provincial court to issue a warrant to arrest the criminal.

The suspect was arrested on September 20, 2012, and the police detained him and put him in jail. The police officers did their best, but the suspect asked to be released on bail, and was granted his release by the court. The police then promise on the video that they will update viewers on the status of the case.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Nantadej also said that the police made their video because the Dutch father of the victim had not seemed to understand Thai law. The police commander also knew that the laws of Netherland might be different, so the decision was made to make the Thai police video clip to build understanding for all tourists.

However the Krabi police clip has been flamed from many viewers, both Thai and foreigners, because there are no English subtitles. So foreigners cannot understand it. Some viewers also questioned the purpose of the Krabi authorities for making the video. Was it really to further understanding — or just making an excuse?

Adding more controversy was a recent suggestion by Thailand’s tourism minister that maybe it was not rape, because according to the police, the victim had eaten dinner with her accused rapist on the night of the incident.

So the Thai police have already removed their video. 555

"Rap style"? Surely it's more reggae.

Hmm I'm off to Krabi with my wife this weekend but don't think it would have stopped be from booking anyway. It does look like the video in response has now been removed, maybe it would have been better sending the girl and her father information on Thai law instead of making a video which causes more controversy.

I'm not an expert in Law but I think that the suspect may well have been allowed out on Bail in the UK too in this case not sure about Holland though.

I am left wondering if the father of this girl created his video to make people aware of what happened to his daughter or was it simply self promotion for his musical career.

Either way if the man did rape her I hope justice is carried out.

Odd that people would cancel. Crimes happen everywhere.

He's on bail. Hopefully there will be a trial soon and, if he is guilty, he should go away for years.

Maybe the intention was to exert pressure to ensure this happens. Seems to be working judging by the authorities' response.

It's a tough truth but a falang woman hanging out with Thai men of that class is waving a flag asking for sex or trouble

just wonder what the evidence is against him , also if she doesnt testify against him herself will it even come to trial ,

you see a lot of these sort girls on Samui and Koh Phangnan partying with the locals being taken around with them

, not realising the danger they are putting themselves in , the Thai men see the holiday makers on the beach sunbathing topless ( even though its illegal and the police ignore it ) and think that these girls are promiscius and fair game

"And were you pleased?" they asked Helen in Hell.

"Pleased?" answered she,when all Troy's towers fell;

And dead were Priam´s sons, and lost his throne?

And such a war was fought as none had known;

And even the Gods took part; and all because

Of me alone! Pleased?

I should say I was!"

What this whole business exposes is the entrenched male dominated thai attitude to women which conflicts head on with the attitude to women of the people they are trying to attract from the western world as tourists. 'This isThailand' doesn't cut it any more with tourists who have a choice of holiday destinations and are voting with their feet by cancelling their holidays to Krabi or indeed Thailand itself and going elsewhere.

Western people planning their next holiday can't help but speculate that If this is just the tip of the Ice berg then the other 90% that we can't see must be spread out and played down by the authorities throughout the rest of Thailand.

The Krabi authorities have not only shot themselves in the foot,They also have made thai policing a laughing stock in the eyes of the world. Whether it bothers them or not,The Krabi authorities can not ignore the loss of money that won't be coming in because of how they mishandled this case. They have shown themselves to be inept amatuers who inspire little if any confidence in prospective visitors.

Conversely, Western women visiting Thailand should be aware of the dangers to themselves and observe local thai customs by not putting themselves at risk but as often happens when things go wrong, It's a case of 'When drink is In - Sense is Out!

That is what the Krabi authorities have implied with their 'Reverse the Roles,Damage Limitation' strategy in response to world wide criticism after her father 's 'Evil Man Of Krabi' video went viral.

I don't go along with how the authorities are trying to blame the girl any more than you or most people with a western culture does.

Sadly,Women will always still have to look out for the dangers everywhere ,

Especially so when they visit third world counties.

And another tough truth is that it's a bankruptcy declaration for white males, when a white female seeks closeness to Thai males. Ugh!

I'd bring the gun here and shoot the cunt if he'd done that to my daughter then got let out. Actually, no i'd probably shoot him in the nuts, let him live. Rapists wherever, scum.

I agree with Jinners post. I have three daughters and should such a scenario befall any of them I would seek the perv out and castrate him. As a Falang with 25 years in Thailand I know only too well that there is little or no justice when it comes to their own vs a foreigner.

Don't click on the link to the original song, it's stuck in my head already.

I'm with the other posters above, not much money spent on the production of that video but wouldn't the same, or a little bit more, acquire him some 'closure' in Thailand?

There is a possibility that he might go on Dutch tv which will generate more publicity and support, thus adding to the pressure his video song message is bringing to bear on the thai authorities to nail that rapist in Krabi.

That thai rapist is probably hiding somewhere in a remote part of Isaan by now.

Let's hope it goes to trial and the truth will get out. I wonder why she was eating out with him and was she alone?

I just don't get why her boyfriend would let his g/f go off with any thai guy under any circumstances. He must be pretty fucked up about it too after what happened.
