A 31-year-old Australian tourist collapsed in front of the Galaxy beer bar on Walking Street in the early morning hours. Police suspect he may have been drugged and robbed. He was dazed and unable to answer questions, and taken to the hospital.

PATTAYA – November 10, 2012 [PDN]; at 2 a.m., a report of a foreign tourist collapsing on Walking Street was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Seksan Reuvate, Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. The police inspector heads a mobilized police team assigned to check and protect for crime in the area of responsibility of Walking Street, now designated a Tourist Safety Zone.

He rushed to inspect with police team and the rescue officers of Sawangboribulthammasathan Pattaya foundation, along with the doctors from Pattaya Memorial hospital and the ambulance.

The foreigner had fainted in front of the Galaxy beer bar on Walking Street, south Pattaya, Moo 10 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, police found the victim lying on the side of the road. He was semi-conscious and talked incoherently, and was drooling from his mouth. His right eyebrow was broken from his fall, so the tourism police and volunteer police performed first aid.

Police searched his pockets and found only an ID card that identified him as Mr. Ernest Perez, age 31, nationality Australian. Police didn’t detect the smell of liquor from his body, so the officers assisted to send Mr. Ernest to be cured at Pattaya Memorial hospital.

Police questioned local residents and the witnesses at the beer bar. They said they saw the foreign man roaming aimlessly on the street like he was very drunk. Then he fell unconscious in front of the beer bar. Onlookers rushed to inspect him and didn’t find any smell of liquor. So the local people assumed that he might have been drugged and had his property stolen, so they notified the police.

The police made daily notes for evidence. Initially, the police assumed that the victim came to travel in Walking Street and was drugged by a woman or a ladyboy who then stole his property. The officers will continue investigating witnesses in detail, to find out which bar the victim may have been drugged, in order to track down the troublemaker to follow up to arrest to prosecute according to the law.

Police are disturbed because the troublemaker committed the crime without being afraid of the law, even though Walking Street is now an official Tourist Safety Zone. For the victim, the police will question him in detail after he recovers, to find more facts and help recover any stolen property.
