A 39-year-old German committed suicide by jumping from the 56th floor of Pattaya Park Resort hotel. Police found a handwritten note on the man, who asked that his family be contacted and his body transported back to Germany. He gave no reason for his suicide.

PATTAYA – November 8, 2012 [PDN]; A report of a foreigner jumping off a building and dying at the site was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Anuchet Katsomboon, detective officer of Pattaya police station, sub-branch Dongtarl, Chonburi. He rushed to the scene with Pol. Lt. Col. Kiattisak Srathong-oi, vice director of suppression division; and brought police forces and the rescue team from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Muang Pattaya.

The incident occurred at Pattaya Park Beach Resort, soi Tappraya 12, Jomtien area, moo10, Nongprue, Banglamung.

Police arrived at the scene, at the 5th floor terrace on the back side of the hotel. They discovered the body of the foreign man that had been severely damaged from the impact, with blood and internal organs scattered on the terrace.

Checking in his trousers pocket, police found a name card of the Nova Gold hotel, and on it there was a handwritten note and the number of a room, 808, scribbled with a pen. The note asked that if he was found dead, for the authorities to please call his mother and his child in Germany, and to take his body back home. So the police took the note as evidence.

Police questioned the head of security at the Park hotel, Mr. Winai Kannachart, age 48. He told police that he had been patrolling at the back area of the hotel, when suddenly he heard a sound of something heavy falling on the 5th floor terrace. He ran to check and found a body of the man with his inner organs scattered on the terrace, so he called the police. He said it appeared that the man might have jumped off from the 56th floor.

The police then went to the Nova Gold hotel Pattaya and checked out room 808. The discovered the man’s belongings and his passport, which identified him as Mr. Hyde Stephen A. Weiner, age 39, nationality German.

Police questioned the hotel staff, who said Mr. Hyde had checked in on November 6 and was due to check out on November 9. On the day of his suicide, Mr. Hyde left his room in the morning and told the hotel staff he was going to visit the Pattaya Park Resort hotel. Then the police came to tell them that he had jumped off the building and died.

After their investigation, the police assumed Mr. Hyde had to be stressed from something, and he could not find a way to solve his problem, so he came to Thailand to kill himself to run from his trouble.

The police sent the body to have autopsy done by the forensic police at the Royal Thai Police hospital, and will report the death to the embassy afterwards.
