Banglamung police traced the cell phone calls of a resort hotel cook after he stole a BMW from his German employer. They tracked the crook to his home town and arrested him. The crook had been awaiting trial for a similar theft. Police recovered the luxury BMW worth 4 million THB.

PATTAYA-November 7, 2012 [PDN]; at 3 p.m., the arrest of a couple for stealing their employer’s BMW was announced by Pol. Col. Somneuk Jankate , Superintendent, Banglamung police station, Chonburi province; Pol. Lt. Col. Supphachat Peammanus, Deputy Superintendent; with the police team of Nong Preu sub-branch police station.

The theft was first reported on November 5, when the victim came to the Nong Preu sub-branch police station to make a complaint with Pol. Sub. Lt. Nijjasan Puaphansri, investigation officer on duty.

The stolen car was a black BMW series 7 model 730 Li, license number SOR HOR-3839 Bangkok.

The car’s owner was identified as Mr. Michael Procher, age 46, nationality German. Mr. Michael owns a hotel named Lake Mabprachan Resort, address Moo 6 Tambon Pong, Amphur Banglamung.

The thieving couple were identified as Mr. Roongroj Ocha, age 27, of Kamphaengpech province; and Ms. Sunisa Kerdnaikaew, age 20, of Nakornpanom province.

On the morning of November 5, Mr. Michael reported that the newly hired couple at his resort hotel, Mr. Roongroj and Ms. Sunisa, had stolen his luxury BMW automobile worth more than 4 million THB and escaped.

The police began investigating, and checked the telephone usage of Mr. Roongroj. They discovered that on November 5 at 10 a.m., the suspect had used his telephone in area of Kamphaengpech province, which is Mr. Roongroj’s hometown. Later that day at 6 p.m., the suspect again used his telephone in the area of Baan Pang Peu, Tambon Ngewdon, Amphur Muang, Sakonnakorn province.

So the police coordinated with police of Muang Sakonnakorn police station to arrest the defendant and seize the stolen car. After his arrest, Mr. Roongroj told police that the reason he stole the car was because his wife was three months pregnant, so he wanted to have a car for family use.

But the police didn’t believe him, because a background check of Mr. Roongroj revealed that he had been previously arrested for stealing from his employer, in the area of the Huay Yai police station. Mr. Roongroj was out on bail while awaiting the pending trial.

The victim of the thieving couple, Mr. Michael, said they came to apply for jobs as cooks at his resort. Mr. Michael thought they looked like honest people, so he hired them. They had been working for only a few days, and Mr. Roongroj acted like a diligent worker. He offered to wash Mr. Michael’s car, and asked to learn how to start the car.

On the next day, Mr. Roongroj offered to clean Mr. Michael’s bedroom. The resort owner didn’t get suspicious, until the morning of November 5, when he woke up and found that his car was missing, along with his car keys. So he went to check at the room of Mr. Roongroj, but he found that the couple had escaped already, so he came to notify the police.

Mr. Michael was relieved and thankful that the police arrested the suspects so quickly. He was very impressed by the professional work of the police. In gratitude, Mr. Michael gave the police officers a bouquet and a photograph of his car for a souvenir.
