Immigration Bureau Busts Fake Passport Stamper

Immigration Bureau detectives raided a Bangkok apartment and arrested a man for illegally stamping passport renewals of immigrant workers with a forged rubber stamper. He confessed to stamping more than 1,000 passport renewals in the past year.

BANGKOK – November 7, 2012 [PDN]; Immigration detectives raided a Bangkok apartment and arrested a man for renewing the passports of immigrant workers with a fake stamper. Leading the arrest team were Pol. Maj Gen. Ronnasin Pumsara, the director of detective division of immigration bureau; and Pol. Col. Chartchai Lamsang, the vice director of detective division of immigtation bureau.

Police raided room number 3009 in the PC Mansion, No. 188-188/6, Soi Ladprao 112 , Plabpla, Wangthonglang.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Pramuk Forfon, age 37. A police investigation revealed that the suspect was the source who had been using a forged rubber passport stamper for renewing immigration workers’ passports.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Ronnasin said that the investigation of the fake passport stamping began after authorities had arrested immigration workers. Police discovered that their passport renewal stamps had been done illegally with a forged rubber stamper.

Their investigation led them to the suspect Mr. Pramuk. So the police came to search his room, and found fake stampers, fake money-receiving bills of the immigration bureau and some other documents. Police also found out the name of a co-conspirator, Mr. Yod, who is living in Donmuang. The police will investigate to find him to prosecute afterwards.

After his arrest, Mr.Pramuk confessed that he and Mr. Yod have been stamping fake passport renewals for more than one year, and have stamped at least 1,000 passports illegally.

The two suspects got their clients from a broker in Samutprakarn. They charged 800 baht for a forged document, and each passport renewal cost 1,500 baht. Police initially charged Mr. Pramuk with forgery of official documents and restrained him for further litigation.
