Sticky Fingered Sattahip Cashier Caught By Cops

A Sattahip Tesco Lotus cashier stole more than 5,000 baht from her store’s register and fled in a car with her boyfriend. The police stopped the car and arrested the pair. She told police she wanted to send the money to her family in a rural area.

SATTAHIP – November 6, 2012 [PDN]; a report of a convenience store cashier stealing cash from the store was received by Pol. Lt. Capt. Naret Boontee, detective officer of Sattahip police station.

The theft was reported by Ms. Nuanjam Mangkang, age 35, assistant manager of Sattahip Tesco Lotus. She told police that a cashier had stolen cash from the counter and escaped in an automobile.

The suspect was riding in a bronze Toyota Vios, license number Kor Kor 9734, Payao, which was driving along Sukhumvit Road toward Rayong. The police broadcasted through the police radio a description of the vehicle. A patrolling police car then reported that they had located the vehicle trying to escape on soi Bonkai 14, so they stopped the car and arrested the suspects.

The cashier was identified as Ms. Kanokporn Ritrong, living at house number 86, moo 1, Khoi, Tron, Utaradit. Police also arrested the car’s driver, Mr. Panya Ketsakorn, a former soldier, living at house number 62, moo 7, Muang Karung, Banrai, Utaithanee.

Police checked Ms. Kanokporn’s purse and found 5,600 baht cash. The police seized the cash as evidence and took the suspect to investigate at Sattahip police station. During questioning, Ms. Kanokporn confessed that she had stolen the money from the store. She told police that as part of finishing her daily shift, she had taken the cash from the register, 5,190 baht, and sent it to the financial staff to count.

But while the staff was counting money, she took the cash and fled in the car of her boyfriend waiting for her. Ms. Kanokporn said she wanted to send the stolen money to her home in the rural area.

The Tesco Lotus assistant manager Ms. Nuanjam said the suspect had been a cashier at the store for less than a month. But the suspect behaved suspiciously, because she usually reported the store’s receipts as less than it should be.

So the store management began monitoring the cashier’s behavior until the incident occurred, when she came to submit the sales reports and money collected, but then quickly left the store. When Ms. Nauanjam checked the store’s receipts, she discovered that more than 5,000 baht was missing, so she notified police.
