Downloading and burning movies

Recommended Posts

For a few years now I have been downloading all my movies in a format called KVCD.

They are about 800mb in size but can be burnt straight away onto a 700mb disk and watched on most DVD players.

Use any torrent site ie

http://www.isohunt.com

And just do a search for KVCD, it will amaze you the amount that are available

Install utorrent or bitlord to download the torrents.

All you need to burn them is either Alcohol 120% or Nero.

Once downloaded you will have 2 files in the directory, a .bin & a .cue

What is a .bin / .cue file?

- .bin / .cue's are CD-R images. They're formated to be burned onto standard

700MB CD-R's or CD-RW's NOT DVD's.

What is a KVCD?

- First let me explain "VCD" this means Video-CD, a movie encoded to be burned

to a CD instead of a DVD. KVCD's are a "hybrid" format, they work at variable

bit rates (unlike standard VCD's which are a constant bit rate). This allows

an entire movie to be fit on only 1 CD, whereas many VCD's require 2 CD's.

The advantage of KVCD's are that they are 1 tenth the size of standard DVD's

which mean quicker downloads (and are nice for those that don't have DVD

burners). Most DVD Players (almost all the newer ones) will support VCD

playback.

What Do I Do with this KVCD .bin / .cue?

- Ok, let me make this straight, KVCD .bin / .cue's are meant to be burned to a

standard CD-R, NOT for watching on your PC! If you watch the film on your PC

the quality won't be near as good as it would be in your standard DVD Player!

If you want to watch the film on your PC then download the original AVI

version!!!

You can download "VLC Player" (google it, it's free), this will allow you to

play the .bin / .cue on your PC (be sure to load the .cue). I don't wanna hear

any piss about the quality if you're watching it on your PC!!!

Ok, How Do I Burn the .bin / .cue?

- You will need a program like Nero (I reccomend the latest version of 6, 7

sometimes causes errors) or Alcohol (my favorite).

With Nero:

Right click on the ".cue" and go to open with.

Browse for Nero, if it's not on the list (locate it in its install directory)

x:/Program Files/Ahead/Nero/Nero.exe

Set the burn speed to around 4x - 8x for BEST and SURE results!

(If prompted to overburn, select YES!)

With Alcohol:

Open Alcohol

Select "image burning wizard"

Browse for the .cue wherever the folder is located.

Burn around 4x - 8x

How to set overburn in Alcohol 120%:

Open Alcohol

Go To "File - Options"

Locate "Recording" on the Options list to the left

Check "Overburn Discs"

(I highly reccomend you do the burning with Alcohol, it's the best ;-)

If you still have trouble try http://www.videohelp.com

There are also many forums on torrent sites that will supply

you with all the help you need.

Good Luck and Enjoy the Movie

Thanks for that mate. Can never seem to convert the avi files properly to burn so this will cut that bit out now.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say will be taken out of context and used against you!

It takes out all the converting stage, burn the disk in 5 minutes!

If anyone would like to try making KVCD's themselves from AVI's then I will happily upload the software somewhere for you to download.

I have never heard of KVCD before I have done some quick research and it looks promosing.

Problemwith downloading everything in DIVX is not everyone has a DIVX player especially if there DVD player is 5-6 years old so if i get a get movie I cant pass it onto my friends to watch.

Is Alcohol Free, I use Nero but am always looking out for better user freindly software.

I recomend Utorrent as a torrent program.

Thanks for your thread

It's more than promising, I've been downloading them for years and have lost count how many films I have!

Alcohol is not free but if you are good at following instructions I will post a link to get it cracked if you download it.

Nero burning ROM works just as good though and Alcohol isnt as versatile as Nero

Thanks for the tip Pa Pa.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to overburn a 800mb film on to a CD recently using Nero.

Downloaded Alcohol and it worked first time. :D

Torrents are so slow for me(is it only me?). It;s easier and quicker for me to download them from a normal hosting site(of course I'm writing about films outside of copyright). That way, I can be watching the DVD film fifteen minutes later.

For friends with only a standalone DVD player that cannot play MPEG4,(is there such a thing anymore?) Nero is their friend.

Maybe you don't have your ports open for torrent downloads.

Has anyone else tried this this method yet?

All the new films out I have got nicely, normally leave them downloading overnight and burn in the morning.

I download mine into any format that has the most seeds, more seeds = more speed.

Handy little app called convertxtodvd is what I use, takes about 45mins to convert and a further 10-20mins(depending on your burner) to burn. Its a simple app to use, open it, click add file (add your movie) click convert and pop in a disc. After converting burning process starts automatically.

there's a free program called Ares, but I would only use this kind of program for porn or music.

Use torrents for films

Downloading Movies is reasonably easy.

First you need a torrent program file

I use U Torrent it is only about 5megs and isnt very resource hungary.

U torrent is freeware so u can downlaod it here

www.utorrent.com , download &install.

You can then start to use sites like

www.thepiratebay.org

www.torrentspy.com

www.isohunt.com

plus many thousands more , the better sites you need to register and become a member

Know you need to decide what format do you want to download I download DIV/X movies only becuase they are 1/3 the size of dvd's and a hell of a lot easy to burn.

DIVX will play on your computer and nearly all modern dvd players play divx if not go and buy one for $40, it will save you time and bandwidth costs than downloading DVDS.

Go to ISOHUNT type in the movie you want it will bring up a few options , choose the divx copy and double click, Utorrent will automatically fire up and you on your way.

Once the movie is finshed downloading , it will have downloaded in two ways 1) as a straight .avi file which means you can watch it or burn it straight away. 2) most likley it will probably download the files as .rar files this is a compressed file, you need to get a copy of winrar , do a search on google and download winrar.

Just extract the .rar files and it will extract the movie into an .avi file.

Then use Nero or Alcohol to burn the .avi files onto a DVD/R disc , you fit 4-5 Divx movies on a DVDR disc.

It is all pretty easy it is just a matter of having the right tools (programs)

1) Utorrent ( or azerues, bitcomet etc) Utorrents website shows you how to open your ports to optimize download speeds

2) Torrent Site (hundreds to choose from)

3) Winrar

4) Nero or Alcohol

I use firefox.

If you register at www.demonoid.org? or .com? these better torrent sites will have cracked version of limewire pro etc

I use this program too. It is brilliant, it even adds the selectable subtitles that you can download with some of the divx films.

As for downloading the films, the newsgroups are the way to go. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you know how it knocks the spots off of bit-torrents or file sharing sites etc.

Good info here.

Usually, I just download the movie in whatever format it comes in, usually avi. I then play it on my computer which is wired up to my TV - no need for any converting. I can fit 4 or 5 movies per DVD when burned as data.

I think the new DVD players can play DIVX files anyway which would eliminate the need to convert anything as you'd just burn it to CD/DVD as data - much easier and faster!
