A Bahrain tourist’s cellphone was stolen by a pickpocketing ladyboy on Walking Street, but he used his phone’s GPS signal to track the thief. He found the ladyboy at a phone repair shop trying to unlock his stolen phone and cut its GPS signal. Police were notified and arrested the thief.

PATTAYA – October 19, 2012 [PDN]; at 6:30 a.m., an arrest of a ladyboy for pickpocketing a tourist was made by Pol. Lt. Vitsanu Chaisuwan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province, together with the police team.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Phusit Naronrum or Nan, age 24, address 66 Moo 5 Tambon Muangphai, Amphur Krasang, Burirum province. Police seized the evidence of an iPhone 4 stolen from the tourist.

The victim was identified as Mr. Ali Maki Mohsen Maki, age 29, from Bahrain. The theft occurred at Walking Street road, south Pattaya, Moo 10, Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province. Police took the suspect to investigate at Pattaya police station on charges of pickpocketing and stealing Mr. Ali’s phone.

Mr. Ali told police that he and his friends were cruising on Walking Street, when a ladyboy approached him to offer his sexual services. The ladyboy also claimed to be a real woman. The victim didn’t believe the ladyboy, so he tried to walk away. But the ladyboy had pickpocketed Mr. Ali’s pants pocket and stole his mobile phone, and then ran away to escape.

Mr. Ali tried to follow up to get back his mobile phone, because he had a lot of important information stored in his phone. So he borrowed his friend’s similar iPhone 4 to search for the GPS signal of his stolen phone.

After about 30 minutes of searching, Mr. Ali discovered the GPS signal confirming the position of his mobile phone at the site of the old Hollywood pub in south Pattaya. So Mr. Ali notified the police to assist and then went to the location of his phone’s GPS signal.

Mr. Ali discovered the ladyboy in a mobile phone repair shop at a Family Mart. The ladyboy was trying to have the lock released on his stolen mobile phone, and also have the GPS signal cut off. So Mr. Ali asked the police to arrest the ladyboy, who was caught red-handed with his stolen phone.

After his arrest, the ladyboy confessed that his occupation was selling sexual services to tourists on Walking Street. He admitted to pickpocketing the victim and stealing his mobile phone. After the theft, the ladyboy had hurried to the mobile phone repair shop to release the stolen phone’s lock and cut off the GPS signal. Then he had planned to sell the phone to get money to use.

But the ladyboy didn’t think that the victim would track him down and capture him so quickly — less than an hour after the theft. The ladybody also claimed that he only stole the phone because he got drunk.

Police charged the lying ladyboy with “stealing other people’s property at night.” They sent him to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.
