Just curious, what’s up with the all the tailor shops here? It seems in some areas every 3rd or 4th store some guy is saying “Boss, I can fit you in a suit” or “Boss, I have nice shirt for you” Yet, I rarely see anyone in the store and it seems hard to believe that people would come on vacation to purchase a suit. Is the demand for suits and dress shirts that high here?

They're just trying to make you suits with their cheap materials. Just walk down the streets with your hands in your pockets and ignore them in my opinion. I've had countless friends who have purchased a suit or a shirt and pretty much after one use well... it wasn't usable anymore. I don't have any clue why there are so many in the same areas. I bet a lot of them are owned by the same guy.

I always had the idea that a lot of these shops are cover ups for something else .

There may be one or two genuine good guy tailors around, an expat would be your best bet on finding which ones, but i have heard many stories of how they take you in to the shop and they have fine legitimate materials hanging up in there, you chose what you like, they measure you up but when your suit is made and ready for you to collect they are made from a much cheaper, poorer quality material.

Politely decline and move on, don't shake their hand.

There is one decent real Thai Tailor that I know in Pattaya

he is one the opposite side of the road to TOPS supermarket on corner of 2nd road and Central road.

He is a That from Knon Kaen

One outside Saphire Gentlemans club, expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Most of the Indian Taylor shops do NOT even make the suits, they farm out the actual work to thai shops behind Tukcom.

A week or so ago one of them got punched out, made me smile :)
