Hotels sending staff to army camp, Sattahip

A girl I know works in SUNBEAM hotel, beween soi 7 and 8. Apparantly the staff have been bickering amongst each other for a while so they are ALL being sent to the army camp lol. Her friend works on the reception and she is proper HISO, she is not happy one bit. I laughed my head off when I found out, just cant see her in army gear rolling around in the mud, she is only about 4 ft 6 and weighs around 6 stone lol. Is this a regular occurance in Thailand? She is gonna be on full pay (for what its worth lol) but also, apparantly after the stint in the army base (2 days), they have to go to the temple for a week as well, god knows why. Just think its totally bizzare. Anyone else come across anything like this in Thailand?

Never heard of it buddy, but it will probably change their attitudes, i know a guy who has a busy restaurant in Pattaya and he said if you don't keep on top of the employee's they just take the piss at every oportunity.

A New one on me, but one thing I do know as the Bastard also said, unless you rule your Staff with a Rod of Iron they will take the piss at every opportunity.

Maybe it is the Thai Version of Team Building, similar to what we have in the UK ??

A lot of businesses in this town would do well to at least try something, given so many employees have sour attitudes towards customers, especially in restaurants.

Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is a tolerable sub-human who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house.

A lot of places do teambuilding, trips to Khao Yai, various islands, corporate retreats to other hotels for the senior team etc., but this is the first I have heard of sending a whole team to an army camp & then the temple. Presumably different times for different people as this is not a good time to be closing a hotel, coming into high season with all the wholesale rates and allotments already contracted.

In my experience in Thailand the most successful businesses are not where employees are ruled with an iron rod, but where the employer takes the time to build a good culture in his team, sets a good example and properly motivate them. Clear communication and swift disciplinary action when needed.

Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination

When do they go... I like it... I might try staying at this hotel..

My dad always threatened me with military school as a kid, I saw the movie Taps, and then I begged to go. Mom would have none of that though

"And were you pleased?" they asked Helen in Hell.

"Pleased?" answered she,when all Troy's towers fell;

And dead were Priam´s sons, and lost his throne?

And such a war was fought as none had known;

And even the Gods took part; and all because

Of me alone! Pleased?

I should say I was!"

Forgive my ignorance but do all thai have to do millitary service or only male !

Stayed at the sunbeam recently and found the female staff to be speedy, beautiful and efficient. Exactly what you would want from this service. Gave me the pick of the best rooms (great view from up there) and were always discreet and proffessional. Would you believe I didnt want to leave? Haha No I think everybody feels the same at check out time, 'lets get this over with!'. So it is very bizarre and wierd, I know where I'd tell them to stick their job if it was me, but then again I am shameless. I know the doorman always gave me a proper salute, but come on I dont need that military crap having seen how it really works and what they are like! (the military). Give me a nice 'swaddee ka', or should that be 'lark orn', and a smile anytime...

So does this mean they come back with an attiude and can back it up by knowing how to kick ass. :Think1:

The Sattahip military place I went to for a night once (with wife's soldier cousin & a dozen other family members) was an army retreat (ie: frer or cheap holidays for military personnel), not a training ground etc.

If it's the hotel's decision - dunno.

There is National Service though and they have to pick a card out of a box (red or black I think) and then the unlucky ones get called up.

We had a LB go on the run from our bar after picking the wrong card, but he hadn't had the silicon done yet. :Think1:
