Thai Man Killed In Motorbike Collision with Brit

A 60-year-old Thai man was killed after the 3-wheeled motorbike he was a passenger on collided with another motorbike driven by a 60-year-old British man. Both the Brit and the other driver suffered leg injuries. Police said the accident was caused by speeding and possible drunk driving.

PATTAYA – October 18, 2012 [PDN]; at 2:15 a.m., a report of 2 motorbikes colliding resulting in injuries and a death was received by Pol. Sub. Lt. Assawin Jantho, investigation officer, Banglamung police station (Nong Preu branch) Chonburi province. He rushed to inspect at scene with the rescue officers of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

The incident occurred at the entrance of Soi Pornpraphanimit 27 (Soi Huay Tanu-Baan E-tor community), golf field route road in the direction of Arng Mabprachan Moo 4 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.The damaged bikes and victims were at the km 6 locaton of the urban main road at 1095.

At the scene, arriving officers found the two damaged motorbikes lying on the side of the road, and the three injured victims.

Lying on the road was a 60-year-old man who was killed in the collision. He had been a passenger on a three-wheeled motorbike. He was identified as Mr. Lob Choocheep. He had wounds on his face and all over his body, and it appeared that his neck was broken so he had died immediately.

The driver of the three-wheeled bike also had wounds all over his body, including an injury to his right leg. He was identified as Mr. Ning Thanongton, age 47, address 95 Moo 11 Tambon Samrong, Amphur Plubplachai, Burirum province. His occupation is listed as a construction worker in Tambon Huay Yai.

 

The driver of the other motorbike was slightly injured in his left leg. He was identified as Mr. Staley Jame Laight, age 60, nationality British, address at 16/250 Moo 6 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

The rescue officers performed first aid on the injured men and later sent them to the nearby hospital. The Brit’s motorbike was a grey-black Honda Wave 125, license number KHOR THOR TOR-963 Chonburi. The 3-wheeled motorbike was a green-gray Honda Wave, license number KHOR THOR NOR-87 Chonburi.

Police questioned Mr. Ning, who appeared dazed and possibly drunk. Mr. Ning told police he had been driving the 3-wheeled motorbike to go back home, with Mr. Lob as his passenger.

However, Mr. Ning said his motorbike had collided head-on with the foreigner’s motorbike that was approaching them from the opposite direction at a high speed. The violent collision flung him and Mr. Lob from their motorbike. The foreign man also fell from his motorbike. Both he and the foreigner were injured, but his friend died immediately.

However, the police still didn’t believe Mr. Ning. They will question the foreign man again later to confirm the facts of this accident. Initially, the police believed that each man had been driving at a high speed, and Mr. Ning may not have had the green light right-of-way, so it may have caused the collision.

Police took photographs of the incident site in detail, and sent Mr. Nob’s body to Banglamung hospital. They will continue to further investigate both drivers and question them again.

i know this road very well, and the intersection. In the article I was surprise that the reporter or Police use the word " Right away " Thais and police have no idea what this really mean if they did they and consistently teach this they would cut down the accidents by more than half.

Did you even read it? They say the police suspect the Thai man was lying and it was most likely his fault not the foreigner.
