A German and his Thai Girlfriend were killed in an early morning road accident in Central Pattaya on Thursday. Police and rescue services were called to the scene of the crash on Pattaya Second Road in front of the Hard Rock hotel, just after 6.30am. Lying across their mangled motorbike was the German, Mr. Kai Ivangean aged 33, who was reportedly driving the motorbike, along with Khun Jootatit aged 27 who was riding as passenger. Witnesses saw the bike being driven at a high rate of speed and it was seen to collide with the read-end of a parked Toyota Minivan. Inside the minivan was it’s driver, Khun Tanya aged 38 who claimed he was parked-up waiting for a customer who intended to travel to Bangkok, when the impact with the motorbike occurred. He was detained as his minivan was judged to be parked illegally by Police. Toxicology tests will form part of the post-mortem examination to determine if the German motorbike driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. For now, the investigation is ongoing in cooperation with the German Embassy in Bangkok.

so so sad, when will people learn to slow down, I never ride on motorbikes in Pattaya. The fact that it was so early in the morning makes it worse, cant have been much on the road. RIP.

A very sad story, and again lost lives in Patts crazy traffic. Is it for me again confirm my view that in Patts I bike, or other vehicle lend.

Sad. My friend sms'd last night that he saw a "hectic" bike accident. Two dead bodies and blood everywhere. I'm guessing this is it.

The van looks like it was stopped in the traffic lane, and the bike driver clipped the rear wing. If he was concentrating he should have seen it. Very sad

so unless the german was legally drunk, the van is wayyyy at fault for being illegally parked in that lane. what a dumb arse! so sad. why did he have to park in the right lane?

you have to be carefull when riding real close behind someone, they may swerve to miss the parked van in front of them that you don't see until it is too late, etc. not saying that is what happened but a moderate speed here is good.

Cambodia is worse............and while I was there another guys said if you think this is bad then don't go to Vietnam..!

I ride a Yamaha YZF1000 Sports bike in Australia, but no freaking way would I attempt to ride something like that here. Apart from being totally impractical, (too big, heavy and can't turn or carry luggage) there is no way you can ride at speed so what's the point. Even on the motorway to Bangkok I'd be worried about someone sideswiping me.

Even as an experienced rider I'm more than content to putt along on a little stepthrough at 50km/h. Sure I could still get hurt, but unlikley to die....

Anyway.....sad all the same for his girl more than him. He had some choice in the matter, she probably had little...

Never been in Cambodia, I guess you are right. What i saw on Pattaya Traffic is frightening, Some bikers on high speed, they seems to think they are untouchable with death.

When I am in Pattaya I walk alot and I am often sitting on a baht bus waiting for the traffic to move. Wouldn’t have it any other way, I just can’t think of any thing that I need to rush to.

Dying at 6am in the morning is just wrong.

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.

Another tragic loss of Life. Pats is the only place in Thailand that I do not Hire or Ride a Motorbike.

I know for me what with the temptation of Drink and Pussy my mind would just not be on the road, let alone all the other crazy folks.

RIP to both of them

Before every trip i tell myself no motorbike taxis this time, but that vow to myself gets thrown out of the window after about one or two nights, always after i`ve been drinking,i only have to be unlucky once!!.This accident happened so early in the morning too so the roads wont have been as busy as later on.

More deaths on the pattaya roads, nothing out of the ordinary but still sad.

i always try to avoid the motorbikes.hope this reminds me to steer clear on my next trip in january

These mini van and bhat bus drivers will stop anywhere they please, as there's no law hear to tell them to move along, the cops are as blind as the bhat bus drivers are to the potential dangers of this...The worst spot for this I find is when turning into soi Bukow from the Klang road, very buisy spot and the bhat buses are parked up looking for punters right there in the middle of the road your turning into, mention the danger of this to a cop and they just laugh at you

You see these morons constantly in town. Big high speed bikes and a young girl on the back. no helmets shorts and t shirt. Like the road is softer in Thailand.

I feel so sorry for the girl and her family. Being a 27 YO thai girl in Patts. the chances are she had kids

If the guy was gassing the bike at 6am on second road the chances of him being sober are very remote.

in my opinion, its almost as dangerous being a pedestrian in pattaya

The location of the accident is a one-way stretch of 2nd road between Pattaya Klaang and North Pattaya Road.

No objection to park on the right side of the road.......unless he was parking and not parked when the motorbike approached at high speed.....who can tell at 6.30 a.m.?

very tragic indeed, my condolences to all parties concerned... just shitty bad luck...

I drive a harley here in the states and love to drive a motorbike in pattaya.... like feral posted i would never drive such a huge bike in pattaya... to big for the narrow streets and and traffic.. i try to be as careful as i can... attempting to anticipate potential dangers.... always scanning in front, side to side checking rear views... not driving close to parked cars whose drivers open doors or pull out suddenly.... i NEVER drive under the influence of alcohol... (not saying this guy did), however, i realize as careful as i am, it is impossible to control the outside environment... when driving my motorbike in pattaya, i can tell almost instantly, from a distance, a farang driver... the thais are on these bikes most everyday and i find for the most part, except for young adolescent thais and of course the typical chick driver.. thais to be decent drivers....however, most farangs are not... they are on these bikes during their short vacations and, in my opinion, the vast majority of them suck at driving these things..

I've carried many a chica on the back of my bike der in pattayalnd i am always cognizant that i am responsible for 2 lives and the chica has no control... she's an innocent passenger...so i am way more careful with a chica in tow... now true, this shitbird should never have parked his vehicle der and if that had been a farang who did that and a thai died... well there would be holy hell to pay... i'm sure nothing of real consequence will ever happen to this thai guy... a pity but true..

nevertheless, as a biker, you have to be 4x as vigilant as a dude in a car... ( especially in thailand where dudes are driving on the sidewalks in the opposite directions down one way streets)... that's the trade off for cruising..

I blow by motortaxi drivers like they are standing still.
