Russian couple caught up in South Pattaya street robbery

Financial concerns and excessive alcohol are two factors thought to be behind a bag snatch in South Pattaya early on Tuesday Morning, involving two Russian Tourists, one of which was slightly injured. Police were called to the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya where members of the public had assisted in detaining the suspected thief, Khun Jongrak aged 34 who seemed heavily intoxicated. He had fallen from his motorbike seconds after the bag snatch and is alleged to have stolen a handbag belonging to Mrs. Svetlana Krylova aged 27 who fell during the bag snatch and sustained a minor injury to her right knee. Her husband, Mr. Anton Krylova aged 25 was powerless to prevent the snatch which happened in a split-second, as the suspect approached on his motorbike from behind and drove up next to Mrs. Krylova and took the bag. Inside was 600 Baht in cash, a digital camera, a Samsung mobile phone and personal documents. All these items were recovered from the suspect after he was detained and sent to Pattaya Police Station. It was determined the suspect had a small business in the Tepprasit Road in Jomtien which was losing money. This combined with his drunkenness is thought to have led him to commit the street robbery. He is now behind bars awaiting trial.
