Narathiwat rubber merchant shot dead; wife, sister wounded

NARATHIWAT, Oct 15 - A local rubber merchant was shot dead in Ra-gnae district by presumed insurgents while working with his wife and younger sister at a rubber plantation here.

The drive-by shooting incident took place on a roadside at a rubber plantation in Tanyong Limor subdistrict.

The three victims were sorting out scrap rubber for sale. One of the two men on a passing motorcycle shot the dead man first, followed by the wife and the sister.

The merchant, Na-se Uma, 32, died at hospital.

During the shooting, neighbours rushed to the scene and shot back at the presumed insurgents with a 9mm pistol. The gunmen escaped.

According to authorities, nine bullet casings from an AK-47 assault rifle and from a 9mm pistol were found at the scene and collected as evidence. (MCOT online news)
