Ungrateful Car Crash Victim Curses Rescuers

A 36-year old woman from Naklua had to be freed from her severely damaged car after crashing into a light pole on Sukhumvit Road. The drunk woman started swearing at her rescuers while being carried on a stretcher. She also spit at a journalist taking photographs.

BANGLAMUNG – October 15, 2012 [PDN]: At 12:30 a.m., a report of a woman trapped in a speeding vehicle that hit a street lamp post was received by Pol. Maj. Capt. Nijsant Puapansri, detective officer on shift duty, Banglamoong police station, Chonburi. He rushed to the scene with a rescue team from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya in a mobile equipment car.

The incident occurred on Sukhumwit Road, Pattaya inbound, before reaching Kratinglai junction, moo 1, Banglamung, Banglamung. At the scene police discovered the the vehicle lying on its side, a Nissan Almera, red license number Kor 8961 Chonburi.

The car had crashed with the street lamp pole on the shoulder of the road, and landed on the road island. The car’s radiator had burst and there was smoke coming from the vehicle. The police and rescue team were afraid of a fire erupting, since the victim was still pinned in the vehicle.
Rescuers hurriedly put out the fire using a fire extinguisher. Then they used equipment to cut the vehicle to remove the victim. She was identified as Ms. Piyawadee Mareepitak, age 36, from Naklua, Chonburi.

While the rescue team and related authorities were bringing her on the medical cradle, the injured woman, who was still drunk, unreasonably began to to blame the rescue team by using rude words. She also spit on a journalist who was taking photographs.

Police questioned an eyewitness, who said the woman’s car was speeding toward Pattaya city, but she lost control and crashed her vehicle into the street lamp pillar on the shoulder of the road. The impact caused the car to tumble many times before landing on the road island.

Police checked the scene and took photographs for evidence. They assumed the cause of the accident was because the driver had been drunk and speeding, and possibly had fallen asleep at the wheel. However, police will wait for the victim to recover before questioning her again and deciding to prosecute if necessary.
