After Pattaya city’s crackdown on jet ski operators, Jomtien rental vendors have create new regulations that they agreed to follow. These include creating 5 separate business zones along Jomtien beach, standard pricing, and strict penalties for violators that includes terminating the operation.

PATTAYA – October 11, 2012 [PDN]: A big meeting was held among the Jomtien boat and jet ski vendors after the city’s recent crackdown on the vendors to prevent ripoffs of tourists. The meeting was well attended, with many vendors or their representatives attending.

The meeting was held at the Krua Surf restaurant, and chaired by Mr. Pattana Boonsawat, the chairman of the Jomtien Beach Speedboat Association. Also presiding over the meeting was Mr. Thongchai Artsong, a member of Pattaya city Parliament.

At the meeting, RULES were discussed and announced regarding the primary regulations and direction of action of jet ski rental entrepreneurs, which the association members have agreed to. These include the following:

Under the new agreement, Jomtien will be divided into 5 zones, which each zone having its designated vendors assigned to that area. Each zone would appoint a chief to administrate in each zone. Also, all vendors will be required to register their boats and crews within their zone for easier monitoring and control.

The association also has set standard pricing for various watercraft rentals that will be applied uniformly to all vendors. This pricing would include the costs of accident insurance in the ticket prices, and thus shift the duty of paying for insurance to the customers.

The scheduled times of operations will not go past 6 p.m. each day, and appropriate and secure services to facilitate rentals will be implemented.

There will be clearly defined penalties for rule breakers, with minimum penalties including arrests and fines. The maximum penalty would be termination of the business. This maximum penalty would apply to cases of vendors hurting tourists, or engaging in property extortion.

The Jomtien association decided to take these actions after Pattaya city had set the latest guidelines for the renting of jet skis. So the board of the Jomtien Beach rental boat entrepreneurs club and many related organizations called the members and agents to have the meeting to discuss and create new self-regulatory jet ski renting RULES.
