German Seeks Runaway Thai Wife For Son’s Sake

A 42-year-old German man is looking for his missing Thai wife, who deserted him and their 1-year-old son five months ago. She needs to sign a document stating he is the biological father, so he can bring his son to Germany. He has spent a 10 million THB inheritance and is almost broke.

BANGKOK-October 10, 2012[PDN]; in the evening, a Channel 3 television reporter was approached by a German man, Mr. Stephan Wagner, age 42, who was carrying his 1-year-old son.

Mr. Stephan asked if the reporter could help him find his Thai wife, who deserted the family five months ago. He needed to locate his missing wife to sign a guarantee that he is really the father of their son, so he can bring his son back to Germany.

Mr. Stephan said he used to be a rescue officer in Germany, but six years ago he came to live in Thailand with his ailing grandfather who was seeking a cure for his illness. When his grandfather died, Mr. Stephan received an inheritance of more than 10 million THB.

But Mr. Stephan didn’t return to Germany because he loved Thailand, with its good weather and much cheaper cost of living compared to Germany. Then Mr. Stephan got to know a Thai woman named Ketsarin, age 25.

So they lived together for a year, and had a son. During that time, Mr. Stephan used the money from his inheritance to build a new house, and when his wife got pregnant, he bought a car and many consumer products to use in their daily life.

But about five months after his wife gave birth, she disappeared without any trace, and left their son and the birth certificate. So Mr. Stephan began caring for his son with the help of his Thai mother-in-law, until he used up almost all of his money.

After he ran out of money, his mother –in-law expelled him from the house. So Mr. Stephan took his son and began trying to find his wife in Pattaya, because he thought that his wife might be staying there, but he still did not find any trace of her.

Then a woman brought him to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province and left him at the apartment of Mr. Chayaphol Vongchit, who has been assisting Mr. Stephan until now.

Mr. Stephan said he wants to see his wife in order for her to sign a guarantee that the boy is really his son — then he will be able to bring his son back to Germany. Mr. Stephan said it doesn’t matter to him about the assets he has lost, such as the house and car, but he will not go back to Germany alone and leave his son behind.

Mr. Chayaphol said he felt pity for Mr. Stephan, who takes care of his son so well. So although the German father didn’t have much money, Mr. Chayaphol has been helping him, and contacted many organizations, but no one has offered to assist Mr. Stephan.

However, Mr. Chat Talardthai, the officer of the Miracle of Life foundation at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, who had come to get information, gave 5,000 THB to Mr. Stephan. The news reporters also together gave Mr. Stephan 1,000 THB, because it was his son’s birthday, so Mr. Stephan can set up a birthday party for his son.

How about a simple DNA test??

So his mother inlaw expelled him from his house? i presume she does'nt know where her daughter is then. And clearly not bothered about her grandchild either kicking them out as soon as cash got low. If i was the police i know what door i would be knocking on!

I work hard to support those on benefits! :Banghead2:

Life writes terrible personal stories. It can be seen that it is possible to find a farang with a good heart and trying to take care of their child and also to find his biological mother. I wonder, what was the reason she left her child.

Why would the police knock on anyones door? Abandoning a kid like the mother did is so commonplace, it might not even be an offence. The house should be in he name of his wife, so the old cunt had no more right to stay in it than he. Question is, why didn't he burn it down? The same lesson again, don't get involved with poor people, here it's poor Thais, don't marry one, don't produce kids with them, don't pay a home for them or anything else. Poor people are poor because they don't have the drive to lift themselves up, to work harder, and so they exist to be exploited. Might sound harsh, but that is what humanity has been like since civilizations developed. Why is it never Americans that make headlines like these?

I DONT KNOW...

How many times I have heard story’s like this!

And it always so easy to be clever when U look in the rear-wiew-mirror.

And somewhere I can understand this guy, I can recognize my own feelings in him and his story...

THX GOD I have not end up in a story like this – yet!

I love Thai girls, and I can just hope I will continue to keep my brain cool when I see them!

I HOPE things will solve out to the best, for the kid, for them all...

Don't ask what the Thai girl can do for you!

Ask yourself what you can do for the Thai girl!

Another of many who ran out of cash trying to retire early. It gets frustrating reading these stories over and over. Hope he can get his boy home and recapture his life.

Because i would have thought it would be more useful than having a photo taken with a cheesy grin

... marko456, we've shared comments about Thai cultural behaviors ... your belief that the husband beat the wife is not a high probability shot on this one ... since you don't live here, you haven't the advantage of the big picture.

... here is a far more likely shot ... a UN study published about 2-3 years ago reports that a bit more than approximately 40% of all Thai children are raised by someone other than either parent ... the number is trending to exceed 50% by 2018 ... child abandonment is widely practiced by Thais ... it is a consequence of Thai cultural values (... a much longer thread).

... this guy will be doing well if he gets custody of his son and can get themselves out of this country ... his wretch of a Thai wife (her family, as well) will not allow it without a big payoff ... their meat hooks are deeply into this child, who is the link to the hapless farang's bank account, and his family's bank account ... the child means money to them ... it is a common extortion in Thailand ... and, 'Thai Rule of Law' is unlikely to favor him with help.

... if ... and it's a big if ... he can get his son out of here, the child will be far better raised believing his mother is dead ... the emotional wounds abandoned kids suffer last for life ... (uh, again ... that's 40+% of all Thai children) ... they never heal over, but are reopened again, and again, and again, by the wretched animals that are his mother and her family resurfacing to extort more and more.

... abandoned children are tortured with ... "why didn't my mommy love me?" ... "wasn't I worth loving?" ... "I must have been [bad, stupid, ugly, fill in the blank]" ... "what did I do wrong?" ... this never stops ... it never goes away for them ... because of this, orphaned children suffer less than abandoned children ... their wounds are not created by their own parents, and they at least have a chance to heal.

... I raised one abandoned Thai child ... 3 more are still with me.

... good luck to this man and his son ... there could be a lot of more heartbreak in both of their lives ... I do not envy their situation ... if he has not yet found the mother, he might still be a bit naive ... Thais do not disappear easily when a little money is spread around.

... another bit to add to your Thai resource file, marko456 ... from the Land of Smiles.

The joy of this board, reading totally random mud throwing. Do you know the guy to make such a claim.

I've read on here that you've had your own problems with woman relationships. Do you beat them as well????

You mean there are no paternity tests in LOS?

I was going to say the same thing.

I am sure there are paternity tests in Thailand, But without the signature of both biological parents (if living) the child is going nowhere.

Been there.

Several things odd here, I would put it down to lost in translation probably.

Any half decent lawyer would get him through a divorce and providing he was legally married return of 50% of the assets. If they were not married i.e. not at all or religious marriage only then yes he is unlikely to get it back.

I got custody of my then 20 mth old son , 24 yrs later he has turned out a pretty good human being.

Yes I gave up alot to take care of him ( my choice) but its worth it. Now that he is old enough to look after himself and has done for the last 6 yrs ,I have been twice a year to pattaya ever since :GoldenSmile1:

.

... ha! ... well ... I am glad you think so ... my heat seeking missile of an 8-year old son might differ from you, when I am plodding with him through the esoteric illusions of adding three columns ... ha! ... he'd have you think I am a child torturer.

... I've been incredibly fortunate in my life ... to have done the things I was able to do, lived in and travelled to the many countries in which I've lived and worked, met the remarkable people I have, and then retired in my 50's ... yet, the reality is that I am the luckiest man in the world for an entirely different reason ... it is because I have these kids ... in my life ... I could never have expected to find myself here, in Thailand, doing this ... what a remarkable trip it has all been ... doing this is by far the most rewarding, most meaningful thing I've ever done (also, the scariest) ... but ... nothing I've ever done in my life even comes close.

... I believe others views, from the outside looking in, is different than it really is ... you might be surprised at just how very normal this really is.

... if the opportunity to raise an orphaned or abandoned child ever visits upon your doorstep and you've a temperment and the heart for parenting, take a deep breath, steady yourself and seriously consider making that leap ... it's very scary, incidentally ... umm ... think edge of space parachutist Felix Baumgartner ... (man, I've done that! ... and saving a child from a soul-destroying institutional childhood is no less breathtaking than viewing the curvature of the earth from the edge of space).

... think about it ... other than maybe a person sacrificing their life for another, there might be no greater gift a person can give to another person as giving an orphaned or abandoned child hope, joy, love, devotion ... you are actually giving them a life ... (I won't dwell on the tragedy of institutionally raised Thai kids, but it is ugly) ... none of these things so many of us take for granted are available to these children ... and at some sad point in their lives, they discover that, and hope is crushed from their young lives ... after that day, they are never the same ... but, changing that ... changing a life ... now that, my man, is very cool stuff.

... okay ... I'm done ... I gotta' go.

Good on ya. I may do something like that myself once I escape the world of work. It's a lot better use of money than most others, in my opinion.
