Lenovo overtakes HP as world's largest PC maker

San Francisco - Chinese PC maker Lenovo has taken over the top spot among computer companies from US tech giant HP, according to preliminary third-quarter sales estimates released Wednesday by research firm Gartner.

They have a good lineup of Windows 8 machines with the Yoga and the new 12.5'' Twist that was announced just yesterday. They'll probably do well this holidays season.

Lenovo has consistently outgrown the worldwide PC market in unit shipments and gained market share across all geographies, products and customer segments, making it the fastest growing of the four major PC companies in the world for two years running. This article highlights an 8% drop in PC sales this year when compared to this time last year. Further, it shows that while HP still holds a very slight edge over Lenova in the worldwide market, Lenovo for the first time, has officially become the largest PC maker in the world. The title had been held by HP since 2006.
