School Janitors Find Side Jobs Selling Drugs

A couple who worked as school janitors at a Rayong school were arrested for selling amphetamines and ya-ice to students and teens in the area. The couple told police that their custodial jobs did not provide enough income, so they resorted to selling drugs to help pay for daily living expenses.

RAYONG – October 10, 2012 [PDN]; at 1 a.m., an arrest of a couple for dealing drugs was announced by Mr. Pawat Lertmookda, Sattahip sheriff, Chonburi province; together with Mr. Chawat Thepthup, Deputy of Stability Division, who had together mobilized forces of Special Operations officers of the Center to Fight Against Drugs to make the arrests.

The suspects were identified as Mr. Suwan or Wan Thongthuam, age 46, and Ms. Bootsaya or Lek Joyroong, age 30, living at address 169 Moo 5 Tambon Baan Chang, Amphur Baan Chang, Rayong province.

Both suspects are janitors in a school in Amphur Baan Chang, Rayong province. They were caught in a police sting operation after an undercover agent arranged to purchase 10 amphetamine pills from them for 2,000 THB. The sale was made in a rental room at address 39/37 behind Aekthani market, Moo 1 Tambon Plutaluang, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

When police identified themselves, both suspects tried to run away but were arrested with the evidence. After the arrests, police investigators discovered the suspects had been using a hotel room to hide and consume their drugs. So officers went to inspect room A-1 in Garfields hotel, Tambon Baan Chang, Amphur Baan Chang, Rayong province.

Police searched the hotel room and found 30 amphetamine pills in a plastic container hidden in the sofa, and also found a lot of equipment to consume amphetamines and ya-ice.

During questioning, Ms. Bootsaya confessed that she and her husband worked as janitors, and had been smuggling and selling amphetamines and ya-ice to students and groups of teenagers in the area. The couple used hotel rooms to hide their drugs, and kept changing hotels in order to prevent police from following them.

They told police that they received their drugs from “Mr. Ou,” age 30, the singer at a pub called The Song For Life. The couple said they used their profits from drug sales to buy food and pay for daily living expenses, because their janitorial jobs did not provide enough income. They said if they didn’t sell drugs, they would not have enough money to live.

Police restrained the two defendants with the evidence, and sent them to the investigation officer at Plutaluang police station. They will be prosecuted with an accusation of together possessing Type-1 drugs to sell illegally.
