Los Angeles police arrested a 60-year-old Thailand native on charges of raping a Thai boy repeatedly since he was 7 years old. His mother said that her son, now age 15, is confused about his sexuality and tried to commit suicide. The suspect is a Christian teacher and Thai newspaper columnist.

LOS ANGELES – October 8, 2012 [PDN]; the arrest of a Thailand expatriate on child molestation charges was announced by Mr. Pete Phermsaengngarm of the Los Angeles police department, together with the police team.

The suspect was identified as Dr. Sunate Tokasoot, age approximately 60, who was arrested at his house in North Hollywood, address 7555 Coldwater Canyon. He is accused of committing sexual violations to a boy under age 18.

Dr. Sunate is a well-known columnist of a Thai newspaper in L.A., the owner of a translation business, an interpreter of the courts of the U.S. government, and also a religious teacher affiliated with a well-known Christian church.

Police arrested the suspect after the mother of the victimized boy had notified the police in April, 2012, that Dr. Sunate had done obscenities to her son since he was 7 years old. Her son is now 15 years old and a high school student in L.A.

However, her son now suffers from symptoms of a severe mental disorder regarding his sexuality, and is confused about whether he is a boy or girl, or whether he is gay or not. She said her son was being cruelly teased by classmates about his confusion, so he got mad and beat his friends and himself, until the school had to call her to pick up her son and take him home.

Then her son finally told her that he had been sexual violated by Dr. Sunate since he was 7 years old. The molestations had occurred while the boy’s mother had brought him to Dr. Sunate’s house every day after school to watch over him while his mother went to work.

After hearing the mother’s testimony, police from the North Hollywood police station went to arrest Dr. Sunate on September 3, 2012. They brought him to the police station to investigate and locked him in jail.

Dr. Sunate’s bail was set at $750,000 in U.S. dollars. On September 4, 2012, the police sent this case to the attorney, and the attorney petitioned the court to raise Mr. Sunate’s bail to $2.5 million dollars. The attorney also requested that his passport be confiscated, due to the possiblity that Mr. Sunate would try to escape to a foreign country while awaiting trial.

Altogether there are 10 charges of child molestation against Mr. Sunate, punishable with a life imprisonment sentence. However, some Thai people living in L.A. do not believe the charges made against Dr. Sunate and believe he is innocent.

The victimized boy was born in Thailand and moved to live in L.A. when he was young. After the incidents of molestation occurred, the boy became confused about his sex, and whether he is a boy or girl. The mother had brought him to see a psychologist, but the therapy did not help her son, who still felt so much confusion and pain that he tried to commit suicide.

Now, both the mother and son have returned to live in Thailand, in order to be in a better environment and have the mental healing as well.
