Police are holding the wife of a 30-year-old Cambodian construction worker who died after being stabbed. On the night of his killing, the couple had argued and she left to sleep in the laborer’s camp. In the morning she was told he had died. Police believe she is withholding knowledge of the killing.

PATTAYA – October 8, 2012 [PDN]: A report of a killing at a construction site was received by Pol. Col. Thitisawas Boon-orn, detective officer of Muang Pattaya police station Chonburi. The incident occurred at “De Blue Sky condominium,” soi Sukhumwit-Pattaya 50, south Pattaya, Chonburi.

Police found the body of Mr.Thong, age 30, Cambodian, his body already stiffening from Rigor mortis. He had been stabbed by a sharp implement that left a big wound. Police estimated he had been dead for more than 5 hours.

While police were checking the scene, immigrants in the area ran off because they were afraid of being arrested. However, remaining beside the body and crying was the victim’s Cambodian wife, Mrs. Da Huan, age 28.

Mrs. Da told police that normally her husband always drank alcohol, and when he got drunk he usually talked rudely to her and beat her. Prior to the incident, she and Mr.Thong had argued on on the rooftop of the building under construction. But then she left him to sleep in laborer’s camp.

In the morning, someone told her that her husband had died, so she rushed to see him, and discovered his body. Mrs. Da said she did not know who had killed him. Police initially did not believe Mrs. Da’s testimony, so they detained her to investigate further.
