At time of writing the transfer can be done by taxi, van and city bus.

How have you done the transfer between the two airports?

As I see it I need at least 4 hours between landing and take off?

I would like to hear your experience, time and costs. Maybe you know other ways to transfer between the two airports.

Thanks for your help.

Nothing in Thailand is 100% sure.

Haven't done it myself but last time I was there I saw a free shuttle bus between airports.

Thanks for your answer. Do you remember what level of the Terminal the shuttlebus was parked on? Was it resently you saw the bus?

I recently asked this question at the Swampy -Pattaya bus desk. They said the shuttle bus goes from gate 8 which is the same gate as the Pattaya bus leaves from and costs 30 baht.

The really obvious question, how often? I forgot to ask....

I recently started a whiskey diet......I've lost three days already!

THAI Begins Flights From Don Muang To Suvarnabhumi

New service aimed at foreigners who went to wrong airport by mistake

8 Mar 2011

BANGKOK – Thai Airways today announced the launch of service between Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Beginning April 30, passengers can fly six times daily from one side of Bangkok to the other in under an hour.

“Last year alone we had over 10,000 passengers who went to the wrong airport by mistake, only to discover that they were in danger of missing their flight,” said a THAI spokesperson. “Now they can simply fly to the correct one and make an easy connecting flight through the transit lounge.”

By checking into the intra-airport flights, passengers will have their baggage checked all the way through to their final destination, as well as have their place on their connecting flight secured.

Using small, propeller-driven ATR-72 planes, the intra-city flights will take off once every two hours from 6am to 6pm, and make the return trip one hour later. The actual flying time is about four minutes and 30 seconds.

The low-flying planes will also offer passengers exquisite but brief views of Bangkok’s most famous sights.

The introductory fare for a one-way trip is Bt499. However, with taxes and fuel surcharges, the actual price will be Bt7,980.

I note the quoted fare of - " The introductory fare for a one-way trip is Bt499. However, with taxes and fuel surcharges, the actual price will be Bt7,980." This means the taxes & fuel surcharges increases the fare by almost 16 times! I checked the original Nation articile and can confirm the prices are correctly quoted from the article. However, I suspect that there is an error in one of the figures at it would be unisual, even by Thai standards, for taxes & charges to increase a base price by a factor of 16!

Has any BM used the Thai Air service? Also - I am looking at a tranfer in a few weeks time and trying to get some information on options.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this Topic. The tip about Thai Airways plane service between the 2 airports are interesting, but for to expencive for me.

Inspired by BM "Ohyesuare" and "Wicked Rodger" I have found the following article in ThaiVisa.com, here shown in blue print. This article is about a free bus shuttle service between BKK-DMK, very helpfull, but nothing about traveltime between the two airports. I hope somebody who done the trip soon will come up with some facts about this.

The article:

Shuttle service Don Mueang-Suvarnabhumi airports starts Oct 1

BANGKOK, Sept 11 - Airports of Thailand (AoT), operator of the country’s commercial airports, said Tuesday that shuttle bus services between Bangkok’s two commercial airports will be provided for passengers with connecting flights starting next month.

AoT Vice President Somchai Sawasdipol said the shuttle bus services will be offered for passengers between Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport next month after low-cost carriers move their operations bases to the capital’s original international gateway Oct 1.

Mr Somchai, also director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, said four buses will be on service hourly from 6am to 10pm between Don Mueang-Suvarnabhumi airports.

He said the services will give passengers more convenience and that the buses will run on the expressway with airport to airport services.

Passengers board buses at the first floor of Don Mueang Airport's Terminal 1 and debark at the second floor of Suvarnabhumi’s Terminal Building, Gate 3, said the AoT executive.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Transport Authority (BMTA) began bus service between the two airports Aug 1 but bus 555 serves not only passengers but also the general public, stopping at municipal bus stops enroute between the airports, not only airport to airport.

Regarding relocating low-cost airlines to Don Mueang, Mr Somchai said the passenger loads at Suvarnabhumi are expected to decrease by 10,000 daily, from the total 130,000 passengers.

The service came as the Cabinet in June approved the Don Mueang Airport development project to alleviate congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

AoT President Anirut Thanomkulbutra earlier said at least 14 airlines were persuaded to shift their operations back to Don Mueang Airport, which is intended to serve low cost airlines and domestic flights.

Thai AirAsia, Thailand's largest low-cost air carrier, was among the carriers relocating its operations from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang Airport from Oct 1. (MCOT online news)

Here is a link to a very good report in Tripadvisor.com about the free AoT Shuttle bus between BKK-DMK.

As I understand it, the service is free for all passengers who need to travel between the two airports. You don't need to be an AirAsia passenger.

I have just done the transfer between the two airports with the free AoT shuttle bus, and it is very easy and quite fast.

When I arrived in Suvarnabhumi I walked out of the plane at a gate just in front of the passport controle where there where no queue! My luggage came after 2 minutes of waiting, straight true customs and 2 minutes walk down to Gate 3. It took me 20 minutes from when I left the plane untill I was at Gate 3, could be a new world record!

The free shuttle bus is parked outside Gate 3 on Level 2, and it is clearly marked. It runs at least every hour from 5.00-24.00 hours, but every 40 minutes between 10.00-22.00 hours. The busses are typical yellow Bangkok City busses, you keep your luggage on the floor near your seat. The bus take the tollway all way and only stops 3 times for paying the toll fee. On my bus there where only 5 passengers and the conductor never asked to see any kind of tickets. The journey took 45 minutes.

At Don Mueang the bus stops at Arrival (Level 1) near Gate 8, and this is also from where they leave going back to Suvarnabhumi. The bus stop is clearly marked. You just take the escalator 2 levels up to Departure.

Going the other way the bus will stop and set you off at Suvarnabhumi Departure Level 4 Gate 3.

Nothing in Thailand is 100% sure.

Just adding the schedule and a picture of the free transfer bus between BKK-DMK and DMK-BKK.

I guess some BM's have tried to do the transfer by taxi, can you add travelling time and prices please?

Thanks for the pics of timetable and bus, most helpful. It doesn't look like a suitable service for me to use as I'll be arriving early and I could have to wait an hour for the bus plus I don't think the bus looks designed for people with lots of luggage like me.

I've taken the free shuttle from Don Muang to Suvarnabhumi twice now they leave every hour on the hour 05.00 - 24.00.

Both times the journey took 40 minutes though both times I left Don Muang at 10.00, it could take a lot longer at other times of the day.

The bus leaves Don Muang outside the arrivals terminal which is on the ground floor.its at the end of the terminal turn left as you exit the terminal.

One hour between departure in the early morning and late evening can be a problem with this free shuttlebus, but you will have plenty of room for your luggage in the wide aisle og on vacant seats.

At present the shuttle bus is vey underused so there is no problem with stowing your luggage.

The free shuttlebus now runs every 30 mins between 9.00-21.00 se attached schedule.

At Don Mueang the bus now leaves from and arrive at Gate 6 Ground Level (Arrival). At Suvarnabhumi the bus now arrive at Gate 6 Level 4.

Now the conductor will ask to see either your planeticket or a boarding card. Travelling from Don Mueang to Suvarnabhumi I showed a boardingcard from a flight into Don Mueang and that was accepted. I have done the journey booth ways in the early afternoon and traveltime has been 45 mins.

Other information in post no. 12 are still correct.
