Chonburi holds Buffaloes racing, seven days seven nights, sure that there will be more than 10,000,000 tourists visit Chonburi.

CHONBURI – October 4, 2012 [PDN]: This year’s Chonburi buffalo racing event will be held from October 16 to November 1. The announcement was made at a press conference in the Muang Chonburi municipality office by Mr. Pongsak Preechawith, the vice governor and chairman of the conference; Mr. Witaya Khunpluem, the president of provincial administrative organization; Mr. Jecho Kongchayasukkawat, the mayor of Muang Chonburi municipality; and Mr. Atthapol Warnnakij, the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Pattaya branch.

Compared to previous festivals, this year’s event may be the biggest yet, Mr. Pongsak said. Officials hope the 16-day period of the festival will attract a large chunk of the 20 million annual visitors to Thailand. Officials optimistically estimated that the money circulated by festival goers could be in the hundreds of millions of baht.

The highlight of the festival will be on October 29, the racing day for more than 140 buffaloes. Besides the buffalo races, a racing day highlight will include a parade of 13 carts telling the parts of Vessantara Jataka story displayed on the carts. There will also be a “healthy buffalo” competition, a farm girl pageant competition, and local Thai sports such as hoop takraw, jumping jacks, and kite-making.

Making a generous donation to the festival was Mr.Witaya Khunpluem, the president of Chonburi provincial administrative organization. He donated 2 million baht to help fund the festival and uphold the tradition of the buffalo racing of Muang Chonburi municipality in the peaceful spirit of goodwill toward everyone.
