BANGKOK, Oct 5 – The Thai army today assured its full readiness to combat looming flash floods from tropical storms, expected to hit Thailand this weekend.

Army deputy spokesperson Wanchana Sawasdee said 3,000 army personnel will be deployed in Bangkok while the army relief centre is well equipped to help people.

He said the assistance to people will involve flood prevention, post-flood rehabilitation, water management, evacuation and support to state agencies.

Army compounds of the 1st Infantry Department, 2nd Cavalry Division and Ordnance Department will be turned into reservoirs, if necessary, and the total areas will take a combined volume of 514,000 cubic metres, he said. (MCOT online news)
