EGAT reservoirs can take more water

BANGKOK, Sept 7 – The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) gave assurances today that the capacity of its reservoirs nationwide is sufficient for much more water throughout the rainy season.

EGAT Assistant Governor for Hydro Power Plants Kitti Tancharoen said the excessive rainfall in the last few days increased the total water volume in EGAT dams to 40.44 billion cubic metres as of Sept 6, or 66 per cent of their total storage capacity. He said the current amount is 16 per cent less than last year’s volume at this time.

Water in all reservoirs this week is 1.083 billion cubic metres more than last week with the highest volume flowing into Bhumibol Dam.

The Ubol Ratana Dam, where the water level was rather low, now has more water, which he said is a positive sign.

The Bhumibol Dam currently has 6.7 billion cubic metres of water, or 50 per cent of its storage capacity, 38 per cent less than last year’s level at this time.

The Sirikit Dam has 5.6 billion cubic metres of water, or 60 per cent of its storage capacity, 37 per cent less than last year’s level.

Mr Kitti said the water in the reservoirs will be useful during the dry season. (MCOT online news)
