BANGKOK, Sept 7 - Thailand's leading media organisation, MCOT Public Company Limited, has selected Anek Permwongseni, secretary-general of the Office of the Education Council, as its new president.

Mr Anek was one of eight final candidates who earlier presented their visions to the selection committee. Two contenders withdrew their applications at the last minute.

MCOT acting president Premkamon Tinnakorn Na Ayutthaya said the selection committee agreed that Mr Anek is eligible for the post and will forward its decision to the finance ministry for approval.

Mr Anek will be formally appointed by the company's executive board on September 26 and will commence his new work on October 1.

Mr Premkamon said Mr Anek was selected because of his administrative vision and knowledge of digital television broadcasting. He is also a former MCOT executive and knows the organisation well.

Mr Anek said he will deliver his management vision again once he is formally appointed.

The incoming president must resign from his post at the Office of the Education Council before starting work at MCOT but can retain his role as chairman of the board of directors of Thailand Post. (MCOT online news)
