BANGKOK, Sept 7 – The government has unveiled an upgraded version of the decade-old One Tambon One Product (OTOP) programme with the signing of a four-party memorandum of understanding to launch “OTOP Plus.”

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who presided over the signing ceremony on Thursday promised to fully support an expansion of OTOP products to international outlets.

OTOP Plus is the result of close cooperation among three major ministries—interior, finance and information & communication technology—in upgrading the OTOP brand with careful selection of over 200 products to be distributed in domestic and international markets.

MCOT Public Company Limited, Thailand’s leading television and radio broadcaster, is one of four parties in the MOU. It will help publicise and promote OTOP products in Thailand and other countries through its network.

Under OTOP Plus, online marketing will be launched to woo new customers and stimulate sales.

Ms Yingluck described the MOU signing as another step forward in the continuing development of OTOP products to contribute to a better quality of life, sustainable income and preservation of local wisdom in communities throughout Thailand.

The OTOP brand will help promote the image and identity of Thai products in the ASEAN community, she said, adding that the government  is willing to support manufacturers in finding investment sources.

The premier said she looked forward to the launch of a one-stop service centre to promote and boost the sales of OTOP products.

Citing product quality and marketing strength as priorities, Ms Yingluck said she believed OTOP products will generate 5-10 per cent more revenue for the country. (MCOT online news)
