The arrest of a low-level dealer led police to a major supplier, who had 3.29 million methamphetamine tablets worth 100 billion baht stashed in his Nakhon Pathom house.

NAKORN PATHOM – September 5, 2012 [PDN]: at 3:30 p.m. a police raid of a major drug dealer’s house was conducted by Pol. Gen. Preawpan Damapong, commissioner general of Royal Thai Police, Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiwat Shotima, commissioner of the Drug Suppression division, and police forces from Sayob Pairee Drug Suppression division.

Police brought the warrant from Ratchada court, No. 661/2555 dated September 4, 2012, to search house number 11, moo 6, Phuttamonthon 4, Salaya, Buddha Montol, Nakhon Pathom.

At the house, police arrested the suspect, Mr. Sophon Sawangsuk, age 29, and seized a 11-mm gun.

Mr. Sophon’s drugs were stashed in a 2-story townhouse at 140/38 Moo 2, Salaya, Salaya district, canal Taweewattana, Buddha Montol, Nakhon Pathom.

The police officers went to search that townhouse, and found the concealed drugs, hidden within the TVs and refrigerators. The packs of 3,290,000 tablets were put in plastic bags worth over 100 billion baht. Police seized the entire stash as evidence.

Police had been led to Mr. Sophon after arresting another drug dealer, Mr. Kasidit Shusakul, age 26, who told police that he had bought his drugs from Mr.Sophon.

Pol. Gen. Preawpan Damapong, said that on the previous day, police had set up a sting to buy drugs from Mr. Kasidit. They arranged to make the buy at soi Rachapruekme 20.

When Mr. Kasidit showed up driving a Toyota Camry sedan, registration code 1691, police showed their identities and searched for drugs. Police found 8,000 tablets of meth, so Mr. Kasidit was taken to a room at the Casa Condo Soi Ratchada-TaPhra 13, Wat tha Phra, Bangkok Yai.

In the room, police found 72,000 amphetamine tablets, as well as 22.1 kg of crystal meth, or “Ice.” During questioning, Mr. Kaidit confessed that he bought drugs from Mr. Sophon, so police planned to arrest and bring him to investigate.

After his subsequent arrest, Mr. Sophon confessed that he had been smuggling drugs for several years. He had rented the 2-story room for 10,000 baht, and had paid Mr. Chaipat Boonyakiat and Mr. Sanupong Sawangsuk, to look after and check the drugs for him.

Mr. Sophon said he had bought all the drugs in mid-August in Ayutthaya. He then supplied drugs for Mr. Kasidit to sell, until he got arrested. While Mr. Sophon was being arrested, Mr. Sanupong and Chaipat managed to escape the police.

Police charged the two arrested suspects with possession of a Type-1 drug (methamphetamine) to sell without permission. Police will investigate to track the two escapees to prosecute according to the law.

I wonder if all of those tablets will now be out of circulation completely or if they will somehow make it back with a police seal of approval stamp on them.....
