A meeting was held at the Green Park Resort in North Pattaya on Wednesday to discuss plans for a new link between Pattaya and Hua Hin via boat. The Marine Department of Thailand organized the meeting chaired by it’s Deputy Director, Khun Nut. Also there was City Hall Officials and a selection of tourism industry specialists to discuss the possibility of starting the service. Research has been undertaken by the Chulalongkorn University for this public sector project which will be entirely funded by the government and is expected to boost the Pattaya economy by an impressive 2 Trillion Baht, according to the research. By road, the distance between Pattaya and Hua Hin is 370 kms and takes 5.3 hours to complete on average. The new ferry service, if approved, would travel only 113kms at a speed of 30 knots and will take only 3.3 hours. Further research and analysis of previous failed attempts to run a similar service from Pattaya to Hua Hin will take place before the plans are submitted to Government for budget approval. They believe that using a ferry, which would be able to take cars as well as people, would lead to the service being successful, especially with foreign tourists.

I took the ferry from Pat's to Hua Hin in Dec 2010 when it had just started the service.

At the time the price was at the reduced cost of thb 1200 each way when it was run by Thai living.

Picked up by mini-bus on Beach Road in Pat's and shuttled down to the marina.

There was some frigging around with mini-buses and luggage also at the other end as the port is around a 30-minute ride to the clock tower in Hua Hin.

Found this way to travel was a pleasant and relaxing experience especially when the ocean is calm and the weather is sunny.

You were free to walk around the boat, sunbathe on the deck and have a free sandwich and a drink.

This was only a small boat of around 90-odd passengers capacity with no cars or motorbikes and at the time it was just over half full.

Definitely recommend this as an alternate way to travel but this service must have declined as it packed up a year later in Dec 2011

That sounds very strange to me as this should have been high season. Maybe it was more practical and much cheaper to go by road.
