Runners And Students Hope To Halt Domestic Violence

More than 2,000 Pattaya residents and students will be participating in contests and a charity run to help prevent domestic violence against women and children. The activities will honor Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha in her campaign to help victimized women.

PATTAYA – September 5, 2012 [PDN]; an announcement was made by the Pattaya Office of the Attorney of the upcoming “Project of Marathon Running and Exhibition to Stop Violence to Women and Children in Thailand.”

The Pattaya benefit race will be a 6.7 km long. Division winners will receive their awards from Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Also, 11 Pattaya schools and 10 domestic violence foundations are having contests to create informational materials and exhibitions to campaign against domestic violence, a largely hidden crime in Thailand.

It is estimated that 1 of 3 children and women in Thai households are being beaten, deceived or violated. No one is helping them because others assume it is the family’s problem to deal with.

The battered victims do not report the beatings to authorities because they are ashamed and embarrassed, and also fear more beatings as a result.

Details of the charitable projects were announced at the meeting room of the Office of the Attorney, section 2, Tambon Na Jomtien, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province. Helping make the announcement were Mr. Chaowalit Saenguthai, Banglamung sheriff; Mr. Ronnakit Akasing, Deputy Lord Mayor of Pattaya; Pol. Col. Sathean Boonlam, Superintendent Na Jomtien police station; the actor Mr. Prem Bootsarakhumvong, together with the Pattaya Officers of Attorney, the club of Pattaya Entertainment Center entrepreneur; and the representative of 11 schools of Pattaya.

The activities are meant to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Bajarakitiyabhawhich, who has been carrying out the wishes of King Bhumiphol, who has stated his beliefs and royal instructions to promote kindness among Thai people around the country, and to campaign for stopping violence against the women and children in Thailand.

Mr. Theerawat Phutburanawat, attorney of Pattaya, the chairman of the Pattaya benefit projects, said that Her Royal Highness Princess Bajarakitiyabha is worrying about and emphasizes the importance of the problem of violence to women and children.

The Princess has accepted a post as the Goodwill Ambassador of the funding to develop for Women of United Nations, or “Uniframe,” which has changed their name to “Organization for Promoting the Equalization between Sexes,” to increase the power and status of women in the United Nations.

The office of Attorney-General had accepted the royal guidance of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha to set up the project as part of her campaign to stop violence to women and children in Thailand in the year 2010.

To honor Her Royal Highness and to distribute and inform the work result of the office of Attorney-General to acknowledge the work of the people, three main activities are planned to allow students, Pattaya residents and government officers to participate.

First, the 6.7 km charity run will start from Office of the Attorney, from Pattaya to Chaiyapreuk cross road, and back to Office of the Attorney. Division winners in the Male, Female and Family categories will receive Prestige Trophies from Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Second, information will be distributed to promote and inform the work result of the Attorney-General office in protecting the rights and assisting in law to the Thai people. Visual information will be given, along with the giving of books, documents and brochures about laws related to the protection rights of women.

Also, a contest will be held to create short dramas to stop violence to women and children in Thailand, of which 11 schools in Pattaya will be participating.

Third, a contest will be set up to decorate an exhibition board to campaign to stop violence to women and children in Thailand by 10 Pattaya foundations of Protecting Women and Children.

Organizers have targeted students, general people and Pattaya government workers in the Office of Protection of Rights and Assisting in Law in planning the charitable projects. More than 2,000 people are expected to join in the planned activities.

Sounds like they learn straight from American government and the result will be same--zero.

 

If we wanna change or eliminate domestic violence we start from culture which specifically is against private and family life by creating laws such as prostitution is illegal.
