Normally I fly direct but at £150-£200 cheaper for a decent changeover I might just consider it

Any thoughts?

I might be wrong but I think that the AMS to BKK part of the flight is with China Air (or similar) rather than with KLM.

As with any airline, people have differing views on both KLM and China Air.

Some people might not like the 2.30am take-off.

Overall a return to BKK for £485. I would jump at it!

either that or by remarkable coincidence china airlines also take off at 2-30am (do a search selecting only china)

Indeed it is with China Airlines..... Very mixed reviews, you should get a "new" cabin with seat back vids and decent IFE, however the "old" cabin is still doing the rounds with worn seating and central TV screens showing Chinese movies. Not a problem if you have an iPad or laptop or Kindle or a lot of booze......

Jet are a good airline. Mumbai is a bit of a hole for changing planes, though. However - if you can get a stopover and a visa, it's a great excuse to visit India for a couple of nights and break the journey. Better do it on the way back, then it won't be such a culture shock.

I like departure very late at night, or very early in the morning. This way, plenty of time to finish everything at home, plenty of time to go to the airport. Then fly at night and arrives not to late in Bkk.

If it's China airline, I don't know, but i just hate KLM. Whatever you do, they always change your seat. Book on line with a seat, look at your booking few days later, it's changed. Get a seat at on-line checking, when getting your boarding pass at airport, it's an other seat. Get your seat back, and then, when boarding the plane, your boarding pass doesn't work, seat is changed again.

Fuck! Took KLM 4 times this year, and they did it each time. I even got stucked in tokyo. My seat was given to someone else and had to wait couple of hours for an other plane...

Avoid KLM if you can...

Well that is a coincidence! I logged on with the purpose of starting 'what are China Airlines like' thread!

I'm not to keen on having two long flights (ie Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc) and much prefer a direct flight from Europe. I can put up with long flights and poor IFE (I remember the Thai airways days well)!.

OP: Did you book the flight and have you flown with them yet? What was it like?

Ok I just finished my holiday and did a round trip on China Airlines from AMS. Had the built in entertainment system and was very modern. Plenty of movies to watch etc, Flight out was CI066 and flight back CI065. Food was ok to. Flight back was quite turbulent and I wouldn't have minded a little input from el Captain that all was well but I can't complain otherwise.

Never booked - I do not think the fare exists any more

I just cannot see myself flying anything but direct

Thanks for the post. I'm now booked on the CI65 and CI66 flights. The ticket is showing up as being on a Boeing 747. On your flight with built-in IFE, do you remember if it was a 747?

I'll post a review when I return.

Flown KLM -China Airlines twice twice, city hopper as usual from Cardiff China Airlines from Amsterdam very good as good as EVA in my opionion , trouble with airline review sites is that many americans cannot understand that China Airlines is a Tiawan based airline and Air China is a clapped out communist state airline with a terrible safety record and very old planes. Plane is a 747-400 airline website has seatplans on website , several sites on net can recommend best seat but its really personal choice

Pound for pound KLM are the worst airline i've had the misfortune of flying with, and i've flown with some pretty bad ones such as Afghan Ariana and PIA! I expect a certain amount of shoddyness from certain carriers but KLM have no excuse to be poor. They seem to reserve the oldest aircraft for the eastern routes and i think they recruit the cabin crews from Dutch prison warders.
