Sra Kaew police are conducting an intensive manhunt for a convicted murderer who escaped from a police wagon. He had killed a lesbian by bashing her head. His own wife had feared he might murder his family and had fled their house.

SRA KAEW – September 1, 2012 [PDN]: at 4 a.m., an escape of a prisoner being transported was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Utai Shumnumduang, detective officer of the shift, Wang NamYen police station.

A convict named Utai Antarabut had escaped from the enclosure of the police wagon that was transporting him. The police wagon was a white Izusu pickup, yellow registration sign, 31-8124, Bangkok.

Mr. Utai had escaped at 3 p.m. from the black cage box on the pickup bed that was holding him prisoner. The word “POLICE” was painted on the cage box.

Mr. Utai is a drug addict and a convicted murderer who killed a lesbian by bashing her head.

The director of Wang Nam Yen police station, Pol. Col. Wittaya Kesawiriyakarn, issued a command to police officers from the detective division of Wang NamYen police station, and the Sra Kaew provincial police, to capture the convict at his home.

The police went to Mr. Utai’s home at house number 65, moo 17, Ban PetSamran,Talang, Wang Nam Yen.

About 50 police officers encircled all the entrances of Mr. Utai’s house to trap him, but they did not find him. Later, the police found Mr. Utai’s watch that he had dropped while he was running.

They expected that he was still in the area, so the police demanded more forces to encircle the area from the heads of the villages, the village policemen, and also security volunteers. They also arranged forces to track any news from nearby areas.

Search dogs were also brought in by Pol. Lt. Capt. Damrongpol Sopapia, the leader of the War Dogs division of border patrolling police officers 12. The dogs and police searched for the convict in the sugar cane fields again, but there was no sign of the prisoner.

The convict’s wife, Mrs. Prayoon Antarabut, was then questioned by Pol. Lt. Col. Theerawat Permwattanachaikul, the vice director of Wang Nam yen police station.

Mrs. Prayoon told police that after her husband had been arrested, she started to distrust him, because he turned out to be a junkie, and became severely addicted to drugs.

She became afraid that she would end up being murdered by her husband, or he would end up killing their child or killing himself. So she could not sleep in their house, and left with her child to stay with relatives.

The Sra Kraew police are continuing their intensive search to find the escaped killer.
