An apparently drunken man committed suicide by drowning himself off Koh Loy island in Sriracha. He appeared to be about 40 years old. Witnesses said he had shouted that he was broken hearted and would kill himself, and then he carried out his vow.

SRICHARA – September 2, 2012 [PDN]; at 6 a.m., a man’s body was seen floating in the ocean at Sriracha by a rescue officer of the Sawangprateep Sriracha foundation. He notified Pol. Lt. Sophonvit Mitpraphan, investigation officer on duty, Sriracha police station, Amphur Sriracha, Chonburi province.

Police rushed to the scene. When they reached the park on Koh Loy Island, they saw the body of a man floating face down in the sea. The rescue officer then brought the man’s body up to the beach.

The man was wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and black pants. He looked about 40 years old and had been dead for about two hours. Police didn’t find any evidence of his identity.

According to witnesses, in the early morning the man appeared to be drunk as he climbed up to the bridge, and then shouted that he was “broken-hearted and will commit suicide!”

He then jumped into the sea. But the water was not deep, so he walked further out to the deeper waters and drowned himself.

The police let the rescue officer send the body to Aowudom hospital for an autopsy to find the exact cause of death. They will rush to find his relatives to pick up his body to perform religious rites.
