BANGKOK, Sept 2 - Taweewattana district director said the area was ready for the government's water draining test on Wednesday.

Prapat Teerapongtorn said 27 communities along the city's canals have been informed of the flood test by the Water and Flood Management Commission (WFMC). The test is expected to go well, he said.

About 2,000 households in the district's seven communities along Klong Mahasawat, Klong Yong, and Klong Taweewattana should be prepared. Should any community be affected by the water draining test, local residents are urged to report to Taweewattana district immediately.

The water level in Klong Taweewattana on Sunday was measured at 0.78m, which was the normal level. The level last year was at 2.78m, Mr Prapat noted.

Officials are speeding up the building of 7.5-kilometre flood embankments at the water junction between Klong Taweewattana and Klong Mahasawat. The project was started on June 1.

The WFMC will test water draining on September 5 and 7. On Wednesday, water will be drained to Bangkok's western canals at 20 cubic metres/second, one third of the canals' drainage capacity, while in eastern canals, water will be drained on Friday at 6 cubic metres/second. (MCOT online news)
