BANGKOK, Aug 30 - The government’s progress in tackling problems in the southern border provinces during the past year will be prepared for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for her performance delivery to Parliament next month, Deputy Prime Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapa said here Thursday.

Gen Yuthasak, who oversees national security, told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Operations Center for Solving Problems in Southern Border Provinces that the Centre will compile the achievements of the agencies responsible for dealing with the southern border provinces during the past year, Aug 2011-Aug 2012.

The details will be summarised and submitted to the prime minister next week, he said, the information will be included in the one year government performance statement to be delivered to Parliament next week.

Gen Yuthasak said that Army Chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, in his capacity as director of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) and representing the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC), told the meeting that development tasks in the areas have gained momentum  and are progressing while intelligence has been better integrated into the agencies concerned.

The operations have not failed, he said, as residents are confident in security measures and satisfied with career prospects as the Industry Ministry plans to build small factories and employ local residents.

The deputy premier also said that the compensation for the victims of violence in the southern provinces must be carried out with fairness. (MCOT online news)
