Police are close to arresting the gunman in a fatal parking lot shooting of an infantry sergeant at a Bangsaen nightclub. However, police are re-checking evidence to confirm his identity, since the suspect may have friends in prominent government positions.

CHONBURI – August 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., the Saensuk police station was visited by a high ranking police commander regarding the case of a soldier’s murder, which resulted from a minor collision in a nightclub parking lot.

The police commander, Pol. Col. Supphathee Boonkrong, Deputy Director, General section 2, Chonburi province, was welcomed at the Saensuk police station by Pol. Col. Itthiporn Phoethong, Superintendent, and the police team.

The commander wanted more information about the August 24 shooting that occurred at 1:30 a.m. at the Accode Galaxy pub on the road to Bangsaen.

In the incident, a group of five men had backed their car into the soldier’s parked motorcycle while leaving. An argument erupted and the soldier was shot seven times. The suspects then drove away. The soldier died from his wounds at the scene. He was identified as 3M Sgt. Dejnarong Tarktai, age 26.

The police emphasized the importance of the case, because the victim was a Royal Thai soldier, age 26, who used his spare time to work at the nightclub, searching customers for guns and other weapons in front of the club.

The soldier had gone to the club to pick up his paycheck, but instead was shot after he argued with the group of men who hit his motorcycle.

In their investigation, police collected footage from CCTVs at the nightclup and all the roads the gunman and his friends may have used to escape in their car.

A police sketch of the gunman’s face has been made, which is being kept confidential. Pol. Col. Supphathee Boonkrong said the police have identified the gunman.

But in this case the police have to work carefully because of the severity of the crime, which the gunman apparently committed without being afraid of legal recourse.

The police also believe that the group of men with the gunman are government officers, so if there is any mistake and the suspect is falsely accused, there will be negative impact to the police.

When they have enough evidence to confirm the real gunman they will arrest him immediately. Police are wrappping up their investigation of the gunman and his friends and expect to make an arrest soon.

Anyone with more information on the case can inform the police. Police also are giving the option to the gunman and his group to surrender themselves, after which the police will take appropriate action according to the legal system.
