DSI investigate Slaughterhouse corruption case in Chonburi

The Department of Special Investigations (DSI) investigated a case of suspected corruption involving a Pig Slaughterhouse and Local Government Officials. A raid of the government-owned slaughterhouse in the Chonburi City area took place on Wednesday afternoon led by Khun Prowit, Director of the DSI Eastern Seaboard Unit who were joined by officers from the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC). DSI Officers were heavily armed with good reason as one man aged 73 was found sitting at the front of the main building with a gun in his bag. A total of 19 illegal foreign workers were also found inside the Slaughterhouse and detained. The main issue being investigated by the DSI Team centres on allegations that well over the permitted number of pigs are being slaughtered on a daily basis and they are not being declared. It is thought the Chonburi City Administration may be aware of this but are not taking action. They are permitted to slaughter a maximum of 250 pigs per day and on the day of the raid at least 500 pigs were counted and had been placed in a holding area prior to slaughter. The Manager of the Slaughterhouse claimed that due to a Chinese Festival the extra meat was required for local markets. This story was supported by the Chief Bailiff of Chonburi City, Khun Jutarat who was later asked about the DSI Investigation. She claimed not to have knowledge of the illegal workers and claimed they were not employed by the City. The investigation continues.
