Pattaya city has contracted with an online service provider to open more than1,000 free WiFi service spots, to increase the city’s worldwide tourist attraction potential. Users will be granted 5 hours of internet access in renewable three-month periods.

PATTAYA – August 28, 2012 [PDN]; at Pattaya City Hall, an announcement was made by Pattaya mayor Mr. Ittipol Khumpluem that the city will create 1,000 free WiFi locations.

The deal was contracted with Mr. Charern Limkangwanmongkol, the leader of True Online commercial service group, True Corporation, who signed an MOU contract to open free WiFi in Pattaya. Also on hand as a witness was Mr. Pakorn Sukonthachart, the permanent secretary of Pattaya.

The service will be offered through the TrueMove H wireless network, at the highest speed of 2 Megabytes.

Mr. Ittipol said that as envisioned, the wireless internet access throughout the city will be available 24 hours a day for people with portable computers, or even mobile phones.

The free service is meant to enhance Pattaya’s image as an Information Technology (IT) city, and to serve the need for internet access of people who reside in Pattaya, both Thai and foreigners.

It would reinforce Pattaya’s image as a worldwide tourism city that is livable and it would help to expand access to services, the mayor said. It would also spur more economic investments to open soon.

The planned1000 WiFi spots would cover all the important points in Pattaya, ranging from from Naklua to Jomtien beach, he said.

Residents and tourists can use the free WiFi for 5 hours per 3 months, by registering through the page of WiFi True Move H in Pattaya. They will receive a password on the page, and would register again every three months.

True Corporation is confident that the service would facilitate visitors and the people in Pattaya, to fulfill the image of Pattaya as an IT city to compete with other world class tourism cities.
