Police have arrested one man living close to the Pattaya Remand Prison following an incident outside the prison which reportedly left one prison inmate slightly injured after the suspect is accused of using an HK Assault Rifle to fire shots at the prison wall. The incident is shrouded in secrecy with all sides trying to withhold information from journalists who are trying to report on the events which led to the shooting. Since the early hours of Sunday security at the Prison has been increased with Special Armed Officers from the Prison Service deployed there. A meeting at Banglamung Police Station occurred on Tuesday afternoon, chaired by the Prison Governor Khun Somshai and Police Colonel Pisit, Deputy Commander of Chonburi Provincial Police to discuss the incident and early on Wednesday Morning the arrest of Khun Jirawat aged 21 took place and the seizure of an HK Assault Rifle was made. The suspect confessed to working alone and claimed he was promised the sum of 10,000 Baht by a Thai inmate known as “Dave” who wanted to scare a fellow prisoner who had not paid for drugs previously ordered from him. Khun Jirawat was sent to Bowin sub-district in Sriracha where the gun and bullets were left in a bag next to a street sign. He was told at which part of the prison wall to fire at, close to the Male cell-block. It is believed the injuries to an unnamed inmate were caused not by the bullets but by falling cement from the wall caused by the shooting. The story has not yet been confirmed by the Prison Service or Police who are both not willing to discuss the case. A further press conference is expected shortly where Police and Prison officials will announce their version of the incident.
