TRUVADA - Pharmacy Cost

Can anyone provide pricing information from local Thai pharmacies or clinics?

 

 

Description - Truvada combines two anti-HIV medications, Emtriva^® (emtricitabine 200 mg) and Viread^® (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg). Typically a 30 day supply of 30 tablets.

Truvada is fairly expensive. It costs about $30-$35 for a pill. So a pack of 30 pills (a month supply) will cost you almost $1000.

 

Why do you want to take truvada? Condoms already provide almost 100% protection against HIV....

TRUVADA is also used in HIV negative adults along with safer sex practices to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 in men who have sex with men who are at high risk for getting infected with HIV-1 through sex, and heterosexual couples where one partner has HIV-1 and the other does not. You are way off the mark...........the question was how much in Thailand pharmacies or clinics? You are quoting Western nation pricing. After further research it can be had in Thailand for 100US$ with a $25 script. Phnom Penh, Cambodia for 90US$ without script.

How do you know if these generic drugs you buy work? Because as far as I know generic versions of truvada are illegal as of now until the patent expires in july 2017.

 

So all the generic versions now are produced in underground pharmacies in unknown conditions. I assume the quality and efficiency of such drugs can be pretty low.

You can't get this drug at a local pharmacy or clinic unless the clinic has been certified to dispense it only after you have satisfied the requirement. Its not like aspirin? You can only get it at a hospital that you are being treated. The cost just a ball park figure is around $200.00 USD for 90 days and that for a Thai National.
